  Was a 197
Fist off welcome

depends what your budget is, have a look on autotrader as that will tell you a bit more about each car and what you can get for your money.

The 182 was just the model that superseeded the 172 cuz renault slightly changed the front and back ends.

everyone on here will tell you something different,

Just search the site my friend.

172- has air con, half leather, abs, blah blah.

Cup- cloth trim, no spare alloy, no abs no air con, bog basic, but very nice colour, lightweight alloys too, just sold mine, had a ph1, cup is by far better.

182 has a four branch manifold, hench slightly quicker, then the variations in 'cup' packs-extras.

Price dictates what you buy.

182 Cup ftw, best compromise between equipment and performance. 172 Cup if you can hack not having ABS and A/C. 182 with both cup packs if you are greedy and want the lot...luxuries, looks and improved handling. Wouldn't even consider buying a 'cooking' 172.

Saving 20kg's over a cupped 182, he may aswell get a cupped 182 tbh.
If he wants a proper cup, it has to be a 172 cup & not the 182 attempt.

He could get a 172 cup with a/c btw, they are rare though.

FF 182's are where its at !

And get a Racing Blue one they are faster ............they must be it says racing in the name :rasp:

To be honest Frainy there isn't a great deal of difference between the models, people will always argue which is the 'best'. The truth is they're all quick and they all handle well, it's just a matter of picking which one suits you.

As said above, do a bit of research... find the one that has the looks and specification you prefer.

Much more importantly you need to find a car in good condition at the right price, many ClioSports have been thrashed and neglected. It's more important that you steer clear of those!

Happy shopping,

SteBurns.

  clio trophy No56
Trophy, end of thread, lol.
Seriously though they are all mint, just find a good one and your sorted.
Would be the Trophy 4 me though, as i own one, did used to have a FF182 but the Trophy is better. Havent been in a 172cup but 2 mates have owned one and didnt like them, they were both used to turbo cars though so they can comment.
Welcome and enjoy.

182 with cup packs is regarded as the best all rounder.

Ph1 172's are a little old for some.

172 Cups and Trophy's are known as the best drivers cars.

The normal 172 is known to some as being too soft and not focused enough however I haven't driven one so couldn't comment, however with a set of coilies i presume it would be no different to a 182.

The Ph1 172 is also a good shout, best drivers car apart from the 172 cup and trophy by all accounts.

It depends what your after realy.

lol, no.

You lose stuff and the only plus is the money you save buying the poverty spec version.

i'd say its alot to do with your buget mate, from what i gauge 172- looking roughly £3-5K, 182 £5-7k+

Ridiculous! You talk about the real cup, then say get it with air con. Doubt there's a big difference in weight between a 172cup with ac and a 182cup. To the op, trophy if you can afford one. 172 if you can't and want the toys, not enough difference between the 172 and the 182 to justify the difference in price. 172cup if you want the better drive but can't stretch to a trophy. Bare in mind the 172cup is trickier to insure due to lack of abs.

The 182 is just the newer 172 so just like most cars if you want the newest car it's going to be pricier so depends on your budget, but there is little difference between them in terms of spec/performance.

Completely off-topic but how come your "Cliosport Club Member" writing is in red?

I think there should be a sticky about the 172/182 differences, it's asked so much.

Woah chill man !

The dude above me (post #11) said that you can't get a 172 cup with a/c. I was merely saying that you can, I didn't say get one with a/c at all.

If you've got the money then theres no question to be asked, 182 with Cup Packs, its newer, less milage, likely to be more reliable, its got the luxuries =)
Insurance companies prefer it since it has ABS (which is useful i assure you) and Two exhausts hanging out the back, that read Milltek.... Nuff Said
