172 72k service

  197
just got a quote from renault wolverhampton and they want 1080 for my major service, just got another quote of a renault spcialist for 350, can some 1 tell what are the main things done on this service cause the prices are very different and was wondering if the one for £350 is not doing everything needed

  MERCEDES CLS AMG
72k - major

Timing belt ( including tensioners ) - every 5 yrs / 72k Which ever comes first
aux belt ( including tensioner if its done properly )
oil filter
oil
sump washer
air filter
plugs
gearbox oil
sump washer
pollen filter
screen wash
check & replace PAS fluid - depending on condition TU
check & replace brake fluid - depending on condition TU
check & replace coolant level - depending on condition TU

Check and report
condition of discs fr & rr
condition of pads fr & rr
check tyres
check all levels
check wiper blade condition
check exhaust
check under carriage for visible signs of wear and tear
check running gear ( Bjoints / track rod ends etc / bushes / shocks )

This is a major service and should be carried out at 72k - some garage methods for full services differ - all the above is classed as a major service. This price doesnt include additional items such as discs / pads etc. These items should be reported, along with a price for the parts and fitting. If the customer agrees to have the work done the additional costs would be added to the standard major service price

is there no specialists that are local to you ? that should save you a fair bit of change.

Unless they have the correct tools to lock the cams forget that idea mate. Dirt cheap anit good when it comes to a cambelt.

Fair play but they need to have the right tools still, no matter how good they are the RS Cambelt is a b**ch and that is with the correct tools!

got mine done, all belts, tensioners etc, oil change, filters and plugs and all the malarkey for £400. thats as good as i could find. finding someone willing to do it was hard enuff!

  Clio 172 mk2
£1080??????????? is that usual for a stealership?????

Ridiculous but sounds about right...they usually want around £600 to do the cambelt alone.

I'm definately taking mine to a specialst in october for it's 72k service...with things like cambelts it's not worth f**King about...needs to be done properly.

Just getting a quote in for major 72k service. The garage has asked me if the pullies need replacing too? Cant see any mention of that above. What are the pullies and are they expensive to replace?

I hope this helps:

If having the service and belts done at the same time the combined price is £45+vat less as we do not need to charge you twice for having the aux belt changed.

David.

So if im reading this correct, you guys do a Cambelt (& aux) change for £330 + vat, and the 72k service which includes the Cambelt (& aux) change for £290 + vat.

Or is it £290 for the service PLUS £330 for the belts?

(sorry if that sounds stupid, im still a bit new to all this servicing business! This is my first time).

Clarky, I see you're over in Wolves...have you tried Four Ashes Renault Specialists (formerly Cliospares)??? They do proper Renault parts, and its about £350 for Cam belt and Aux belt plus fitting and new tensioners, etc. They can do the rest with Gen Renault parts and you will almost certainly get the book stamped! They are on 01902 790 123 website http://www.fourashesrenault.co.uk/ and they are between J2 of the M54 and the Gailey Island (Just off the A449)

If you buy the genuine kit, the pullies need replacing as they are plastic...and there's no point in replacing the belt for the plastic bits to snap! You can get the kits from Renault...

GDI do them...see here http://www.greydevilindustries.com/Products/default.asp?type=dept&DepartmentID=11190&MID= and they can fit as well...never had work done by them, but at least you can see what the kit looks like as those are the bits that need doing...and as said by others, do the aux belt as well.

Both prices on our site list the aux belt so the total cost for the 72k service and cambelt with aux belt change would be £290 + £330 - £45(for 72k aux belt as this is done as part of the £330 price) which makes a total of £575+vat including parts and labour.

David.

Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated. Always good to know roughly what prices to expect. K-Tech if I was near you I would take it in to you but unfortunately im in Edinburgh & I doubt the current belts would last the trip!

Does anyone know of anywhere in the Edinburgh region that can match or come close to these prices?

Don't have permissions to view the thread tho, whats the jist of it... good write up for Lochrin?

Will get in touch & to get a quote from them.

And at the risk of sounding daft... and im sure ive done it before... but how do you post pics up here? Seems to have changed...The insert image tags need http url's...

Quote just in:

72k Service including Timing Belt & Aux - £638 + vat inc parts & labour (5.2hr on belts, 2.6hrs on other services). This includes renewing the following:

Oil
Engine oil filter
Brake Hydraulic fluid
Cooland Anti Freeze
Air filter
Pollen Filter
Petrol Fuel filter
Timing Belt
Aux Belt
Spark Plugs
Central locking / alarm remote unit batteries

plus all the usual checks/reports.

On top of this, I need to replace my rear axle bushes which if I get done at the same time will be £115 + vat (£25 each bush, plus £65 total labour).

Do these figures sound about right? I know theyre not as good as K-Tec but its best ive got so far (actually, ive had one guy quote about 150 for the timing belts labour & parts all in...eh...no thanks).

Is there anything else I should ask them to do that would make it cost effective to do at the same time (i.e. may as well do it while theyre there)?
