172 alarms

according to the uk spec clio 172 (not cup) there is supposed to be an alarm but i dont think mine has got one,

do they have alarms? if so how can you set it off (without breaking in to it haha)

Both the 172 & Cup have the same Thatcham Cat 1 alarm system mate...

Youll know if it has one as there will be ultrasonics on the front pillars near the windscreen, so just look up and see if theyre there.



To set it off, lock the car as normal, wait a couple of mins, then unlock a door with the key and open it!

Imports dont have alarms as standard. They are fitted by the dealer when they come into the country.

if you brought it from a renault dealer then they should have fitted one if its an import youll have to pay yourself

Yes, if its a pukka UK car it should have the alarm as standard.

Take it back to the dealer and DEMAND an alarm fitting!!!

everyone knows that the cat 1 alarms is fitted by renault uk when they enter the country, but does this mean that renault make the car with out an alarm of any sort or immobiliser, surely there must be something factory fitted, does this mean that broker supplied cars do not have remote central locking, any owners who have parallel imports (the name my broker called the car) please respond, as im due to pick mine up any day and would be quite worried if there was no safety devices of any kind,

i informed my insurance company of the situation and they put renault silver shield on my policy under alarms, is this the factory option, also if you have a cat 1 thatham retro fitted, do you have 2 key fobs and 2 alarms working parallel like on the rs focus?? any advice appreciated...

admob you still get central locking and an immoboliser even on imports

if you put the key in and turn it straight away you will notice the car doesnt turn over for a second this is because of the immobiliser checking the transponder in the key fob

if you get a broker to order you a 172 sport direct from renault, what comes in the way of alarms/immobiliser/central remote locking etc, i know the cat 1 alarm is retro fitted by renault uk afterwards, does that mean that like the rs focus you have two alarms and key fobs working side by side or does the sport come from the factory with nothing in the way of secuity hoping that the dealer in the relevant country will fit something... this sounds a bit odd - no wonder its a groups 16 car, my car turns up this week, quick answers would help, should i have an alarm fitter on standby as soon as i pick it up???

You get the inidcators flashing when you lock/unlock the car, but no audible notification...

...unless you disable the ultrasonics!

by audible notification , I mean , that if someone smashs your windows and breaks in, does any alarm start shreiking, Is there a cat 2 alarm?? or is it solely an engine immobiliser fromthe factory??

Aaaaah...

Yeah, the siren goes off and the inicators flash.

The immobiliser is a Cat 2 transponder type and the alarm is Cat 1 according to the stuff Im looking at in front of me!

Correct.

The Cat 1 alarm is retro fitted in the UK by Renault and all main dealer supplied cars "should" have it fitted.

On imports they either have no alarm, or an aftermarket system fitted, or in some cases (like my mates mk1 import) they may have the genuine Renault one fitted.

Generally import = no alarm!
