172 and VTS - Comparison

  Vectra :(
Been driving a few VTS/106s of late looking for my 172 replacement and i can say that std for std the 172 is faster but again not by much.

However throw £2000 at both cars for modding and the VTS should come out on top. There are lots of 106s putting out @ 160bhp which makes it not too far from 200bhp per ton especially if stripped too. A few people on ssc etc are getting 1/4 mile times faster than 172s.

Its true you need to drive them harder to see the best tho. When they are specced up tho engine wise with cams and a remap along with the breathing mods 160 bhp is quite cheap to do. Ben_p's 106 wouldnt be overtaken by many 172/182s on here.

As a quick comparison from lettorquebhp.com

Standard VTS

Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 120
Weight without Driver (KG) : 850
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 143.44
0 - 60 (Secs) : 7.50
0 - 100 (Secs) : 21.31
60 - 100 (Secs) : 13.81
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 15.98
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 86.59
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 15.78
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 88.10

Standard 172

Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 172
Weight without Driver (KG) : 1140
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 153.30
0 - 60 (Secs) : 7.04
0 - 100 (Secs) : 18.78
60 - 100 (Secs) : 11.74
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 15.47
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 90.76
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 15.27
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 92.33
106/VTS @ 850kg - Modded with breathing and cams

Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 160
Weight without Driver (KG) : 850
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 191.26
0 - 60 (Secs) : 5.93
0 - 100 (Secs) : 15.37
60 - 100 (Secs) : 9.44
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.37
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 96.68
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.17
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 98.43

Assuming mod for mod and the clio is cammed and at @ 200bhp
(this would cost 3 times as much as it did on the VTS)

Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 200
Weight without Driver (KG) : 1140
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 178.26
0 - 60 (Secs) : 6.21
0 - 100 (Secs) : 15.72
60 - 100 (Secs) : 9.51
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.61
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 96.41
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.41
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 98.12

  Vectra :(
hmmm ok just checked on another site and its got the clio wieght stated as 1090 kg so my bad.

figures will be closer

  Vectra :(
Again apologise for the VTS wieght, it was late and i didnt actually check the wieght, i just took it as being the same as the 106 which according to a website i was on and also ben_p's avitar is about 850 kg. Just checked the VTS and its actually 920kg....

...i really shouldnt attempt any stat related posts at that time of night after plenty beer :dapprove:

  Vectra :(
For comparison i know i guy with a 106gti, viper air filter, decat and stainless system only so no cams etc or remap and he ran a 15.001 @89mph last weekend and was in the 15s all day.

Really dont think there is that much in it really. However you will have to do with aircon and all the other nice toys in the clio. and i wouldnt want to do that on a day to day basis

  Street Triple R
I thought there really wasnt a great deal between my Cup and my VTS in terms of performance

but i am looking for another VTS again....if anyone knows any Black VTSs about..let me know :)
