172 Backbox removal?

I'm having a little trouble removing the backbox of my 172. It snapped last night and i've another on order. The rubber seal is almost perished tho...and i'm unsure how u seperate it from the backbox itself? Any suggestions would be a great help!

When you say rubber seal?? Do you mean the rear exhaust mount thats holding the backbox up.

If so, the mounting has 3x 13mm (IIRC) bolts, either undo them slightly, so it can slide forwards/backwards off the hanger, or undo them completely to remove the mount.

If the rubber inside the mounting is perished, then its time for a new rear exhaust mount. Think they are around £10 new from KTEC.

Not sure if yours has it but on the hanger that goes through the mount there might be a bolt stopping you from removing the back box, you need to go under the car and look behind it, mine has and its a small 8-10mm one,

Yeah its the rear exhaust mount i'm meaning...i tried loosening it and it seemed to get tighter....and yes, i was turning it the correct way, lol. I may try and just take the whole exhaust mount off. The bolts seemed astho they were welded on tho....need 2 put abit more back into probably. Thanks for the advice.

Remove the rear passenger wheel and attack it from that position, much easier

Try spraying some WD40 and leave it for awhile. I undid mine the other week and though they was tight on, a bit of the classic 'WD40', made them awhole lot easier to get off.

^ just go on North west performance website and its about £10, dont go to renault as theyl just rip you off

U don't need to tell me that....they have a bad rep in the highlands of Scotland. I know a lady who was charged £140 for a new battery! Daylight robbery!
