172 blown a spark plug out??

I had a 172 come back under warranty with a misfire. Whipped it all apart and it had blown the plug out of the far left chamber. The (Bosch super 4!!! Grrrr) plugs were minging so I replaced them with new genuine ones, fitted all up tightly and perfectly, and away the guy went.

This was about 4/5 weeks ago and he has rang again today saying that its doing the same thing.

I'm assuming its done the same plug again, if it has, what are my options???

Is a helicoil that much of a bodge?? (I have no experience of them so cannot comment either way)

It's not that bad, i have used them in the past with success,however also have had them fail too. If you have damaged the threads in the head for a spark plug you can insert them into the head and re fit the plug.....and cross your fingers and toes it holds!!!!

yes and no
we have on a evo trackcar used an insert which is still going strong now (but it was only supposed to get him through the day)
its the danger of the material u drill/cut into going inside the bore.
the genuine helicoils work well in fairness though

The guys at Price Bros Engineering in Avonmouth did a helicoil on my last car and they were great!! Quick, friendly and cheap worth a chat i would say.

do NOT use a helicoil under any circumstances

A timesert is the correct way to do it

I've no idea what that is or what it does.
