I am on about engines ! read what i type ! Italians make the best engines - simple ! Alfas V6 in 2.5 or 3 ltr, ducatis v-twin, not to mention ferrari, lambo, masserati, lancia, what about fiats 5cyl 2.0 turbo, in the coupe, or even the 1.2 16v in that bloody horrible punto thing. I am not on about the cars that they are in, i am on about the engines themselves, their sound, look, performance and reliabilty etc.Quote: Originally posted by 172loony on 20 April 2003
just saying that i wouldnt put forward an itailian car as a good example of anything other than style unless i was spending the thick end of 60k upwards thats all
who wins countless awards at engine design awards year after year ? BMW in particular the S designation motorsport engines. the alfa v6 ill give you granted but dont think much of the rest . plus lambo masarati and ferrari fall into my 60k plus commentQuote: Originally posted by Jonto on 20 April 2003

the both rear shocks have gone and the car is only 3yr old
the door locks are crap and break down and cost £145 + the vat
the engines rattle and it take a lot to get them going
they all leak from the water bottles
door check sraps break
rear tailgate pistons break off the tailgate brackets
the list goes on
i said italian engines were sh*t didnt i. girl at work had the head gasket go on her 1.2 punto go twice tooQuote: Originally posted by billabong on 20 April 2003
Oh and sorry 172 loony the 1.2 16v Fiat lump is a terrible engine I had one in my last Punto the head gaskets like to blow after 4k, they overheat, they leak and there are loads of other problems I cant be arsed to go into. Altho they are quite quick (when they work )
I agree, i think bmw do make good engines, even the diesel in the E46 is a corker !Quote: Originally posted by 172loony on 20 April 2003
i agree with the v6, ferrari lambo and masarati but f example an e30 m3 engine old four pot with out vvt and design from the 80s can be tuned N/A to over 450bhp FACT how many engines can you say that about ?
is yours a cut and shut job with no vin plates shorty ?Quote: Originally posted by SHORTY on 20 April 2003

My mate has a 1.2 16v - its done nearly 80k ! and guess what, he has head the head gasket replaced nearly 20 times, because they only last 4 k ! - Not !Quote: Originally posted by billabong on 20 April 2003
No w**k boy I called myself after my clio. Im a bloke by the way. If you want really bad quality buy any Fiat, Lancia or Alfa. They are unreliable, rust after a few months and bits fall off all the time!!! No one else on here complains like you do if you dont like the car get rid of it. never said that renault were awesome at engines, but never been a fan of italian ones either apart froma select few, not having a dig at you mate just my opinion after being in and driving so many cars over the years. oh and shorty yes the ctr has more power and is marginally quicker but it has a very narrow power band really has to be kept on cam to get the best of it where the 172 has better wider spread and delivery, its a very different drive. and remeber i have driven both and LIKE bothQuote: Originally posted by Jonto on 20 April 2003

I just think that renault dont make superb engines, and that the italians do make good engines !

You really are a prick Shorty!!! Obviously short by name, short by nature. Shorty is obviously a dick who cant look after cars!!! Several of my friends have just bought new Clios too and we are all really happy with them, several of my other friends have older Renaults and dont have many problems either. Like I said get rid of the car, Renaults are as good as any other of the main manufacturers cars. Live with it or sell it, either that or you bought a lemon and you are embarassed cause youre a thick f##ker!!!
