172 Cat Removal tips please

Im going to add a decat to my cup, had a look last night what sort of job it is and doesnt look bad but my front nuts look like theyve never been touched since day1, how easy are they to remove and is there an alternative way of removing if they wont budge?

angle grinder! never had a problem though always managed to undo them.

Its always bad when your front nuts have never been touched.

Touching of ones nuts is definately the way forward.

Defintely need 2 people for the job, was a right pain when i did mine! Recruit a small child to undo the nuts for you if you dont have small arms lol

heat - if you can get a blow torch on them.

If not, penetrating oil over night.

I fitted a power cat to mine instead of a decat, didnt fancy changing it back ever mot time

yeh the two nuts joining it to the manifold can be little tricky

what some people have done is to put 2 flanges either side of the cat to make removal/refitting much easier.

24seven advised 2 people for the job, is that for 1 from the engine bay side and the other underneath working or is it possible to undo it all from underneath, just had it on ramps at work and still looks fiddly if all goes pear shaped lol
