172 centre section

Car is out of warrenty, renault want to charge £680 to change it and stop the 4k rattle, Is there a cheaper way of eliminating the rattle??

the 172 is my day to day car so i dont want to make it undrivable with straight through exhausts etc (although depends how loud they are)

Just out of curosity is it just at 4k u get the rattle as I have a rattle at 2.2k I think it maybe the heatshield but im a little unsure.

no its kind of all over the rev range, it just peaks at around 4k IIRC

£680 is OTT you could get a good custom silenced centre section much cheaper surely?!

I see, do you have any idea what my rattle could be it happens at 2.2k?its more like a vibration, its in the middle of the car.

Simple - cut the centre section out and weld a straight pipe onto the middle box. It will still sound ok - i did it to my clio and it was fine

Does the centre section include the cat?

Would buying a ktec cat back system sort the problem?

no mate the centre section doesnt include the cat - its just a tiny silencer

So a de-cat wouldnt sort it?

Is it worth getting powerflow to get rid of that silencer?

Just buy Ktecs hidden cat back system? Would this solve it? How loud is it?

The center section does not cost £680. I think you have been quoted for the center section and the back box.

The whole system including the cat costs over £1000 when I was quoted. They also tried to sell me the back box but I had to get it in their tiny brains that I only needed the center section.

I had the new center section fitted and it cost just over £250 at a renault dealer.

Bottom line dont go to renault waste of time and penny. Get aftermarket exhaust, believe can still get silenced ones if noise an issue?
