172 Cup - 36k, 18 months, still lovin’ it

Tonight I had the dream drive home, there seemed to be a lull in the traffic everywhere I went, and almost every roundabout was mine. It reminded me of why I love this car so much and will never sell it :D

After 36k miles and 18 months theres not one thing Id change about it. I seem to have got a good one to start with, and being fortunate enough to have Mike172sport regularly take care of it (thanks mate) the service from my dealer has been first rate. Im remarkably still 99.5% rattle free (and thats after a serious caning on-track several times too)! I run an R-sport ECU and ITG panel, and have the back stripped which makes it sound fantastic at 7,750rpm. A539s are the order of the day, and they are good tyres (to me anyway).

The only thing that frustrates me is its relative lack of road presence - BMWs, Audis et al refuse to move over unless you get to within 10m of them...it just doesnt look mean enough (and then they probably think youre a tailgating w**ker for getting so close). Still, I enjoy letting them (and pretty much everything else) stay in touch for a couple of roundabouts when Im in front, before giving it full throttle through and out of one particular roundabout that I now know like the back of my hand ;)

Heres to many more meets, track days, and hopefully sometime soon, ring visits.

One very happy Renaultsport customer (and Cliosport member) :D

Nicely put Mark :D
30k and 24 months with my 172 and I feel the same. Cant quite say the same about the lack of rattles, but who cares.

Have no plans to get rid of mine for a long time.

Yep, this cup is quick!!

Nice one mark, these cup owners seem to be rather content!

Is it me, or is the 172 Cup ownership narrowing down to the truly hardcore ;)

Glad therell be plenty of others thatll be around for time to come.

Forgot to say, that if I drive like everyone else, I regularly see almost 40mpg. They definitely get better with age too...at my first trackday at Combe I was averaging 14mpg, recently at Brands, it was around 19mpg! The drivetrains getting a tiny bit loose now though  - only to be expected I guess.

yep they certainly are.... do you get the same as me mark, PMs all the bloody time asking if its for sale??.. i get it at least twice a week from unknowns! rarr

  172 cup TT

damn, you will buddy... owning a cup is crazy!... i sware i had the local newspapers on the phone the other day wanting to run an article about CUP / super car owner ship, couldnt hear them tho! - incredible!

had mine two years now and still love it, even if it wasnt nippy id still love it cuz its such a nice looking car. ive never met anyone whos said they didnt like mondial blue.

i dont agree tho, i think it does look mean. bmw drivers wont move out they way full stop though )

  Cup 172

Had mine for 8 months and love it. Think r lass is going to dump us though. The number of times I come downstairs to make her a brew at a weekend, look out of the window, see the Cup sitting there and head off for an all day thrash...

Mines bizarre. If you dry it gently, things go wrong, if you show it no mercy, it comes back for more...

haha TeamP I know exactly what you mean... my otherhalf gets SOOO suspicious - i say im going to the shops or a 5 min journey and end up being an hour or so... when i come back she has a mare and all i can answer with is:

ME: "What?? whats wrong, i was just driving about"...

HER " you were JUST driving about?!!!!"....

ME : Im like "yeh"

HER "A cars only used to get you from A to B"

ME: "Its a bloke thing you wouldnt understand"

HER: "Why?"

ME: "Oh you just wouldnt.."

HER "Why?? - coz your seeing your fancy bit on the side?"

ME: **GUNSHOT** joke - But yeh I end up digging myself a great big hole and oh its just game over for me that night :) - Trying to explain why JUST driving around in your nice car on a nice evening to a girl who doesnt understand is just like i suppose trying explain how transformers were better than barbie when we were kids.. THEY JUST DONT BL:OODY GET IT :) - (Wow, what a rant, sorry chaps!)

Ye my 172 is on 36k now, got to say that its the first car I havent chopped in after 6 months of owning. Probably gonna keep this car for another year before I think about selling it. Still having fun with it !

  Weeman sucks ****

Another happy cup owner here. Had her for 2 and a half years now and covered 46,000 miles and she goes better and better all the time.

The coilovers have been superb and so has the prospeed exhaust to, so chuffed with the noise and the free revs:D

Dont really think anymore power would be needed as Im still learning from the car to this day.

I love my blue rocket!

  Nippy white cup

Ditto for us. Aside from the probs weve had with the engine mounts (probably as much to do ith renault not fixing them properly when it has been in) I still love driving it. Goes well, looks well and sounds brilliant. Cant complain and wont be selling it at all......couldnt bring myself to getting rid especially at the silly prices they are going for now.

Chris

I have to agree ... Ive had my cup 14 months and im still loving it. I drive to a petrol station thats 2p a litre cheaper but is 4 miles away and think ... i know its stupid but at least i get a decent drive out of her! I cant just pop out for less than 5 mins !! that would be a waste

  255 V6 Black Gold

yep, i love my cup

some work in progress / going to be happening soon, involving some£000s and yozzasport

shall keep you up to date with that!

also my two penths worth, yeah during week, i dont boot my, unless someones trying it on, i stay under 3000, and always get about 42 mpg

£20 fill up sees me do about 200 - 220 miles

another happy cupper here!!! My petrol station is 200 yards down road, but instead I drive the 14 miles to Brighton cos its cheaper!... then along the coast, through Newhaven in to Eastbourne up and round Beachy Head, and then the 40 miles home, so in all.....i need petrol again!!! two years old, 10200 miles, and wont be selling it unless its for scrap in 20 years!!:p
