172 cup / 4-2-1 manifold

  172 cup
Hi,

I have recently purchased myself a 172 cup. I now want to fit a new exhaust system to the car. The car came with a 4-2-1 manifold fitted which I dont think is standard? so now I am unsure which exhaust system I need to fit. For example will a 172 milltek system fit straight onto the 4-2-1 manifold?

Cheers for any help,

Dean

I believe the 4-2-1 manifold comes off the 182, therefore you'd need to get a 182 milltek system but, maybe it could be a custom manifold?

thats what I was afraid of lol. Becuase the 182 exhaust comes out from the bumper? So I would need to make 2 cut-outs to fit it.

Is it defo milltek you want?
Im sure there are people on here that have 182 manifold and a hidden rear back box...I think the 182 manifold is quite sort after mate...
Whats on the car atm?

I thought that a 172 with a 182 manifold just meant that all you need is a 182 cat to make any 172 aftermarket exhaust fit?

If it is the 182 manifold then you will need either a sport cat or link pipe specifically for linking the manifold to a 172 system.

I run a 4-2-1, 182 manifold on my cup with a Ktec link pipe to a 172 supersport stealth system, allows easy swap to the sports cat I also have come MOT time :)

Slighty off topic but did you notice any gains over 4-1 mani, or is it just for ease when changing cats come mot time?

I achieved a lower bhp than with the 4-1 manifold (dropped 2 bhp) but gained 7lbft torque although the two RR runs were done at different RR's so not a fair comparison.

The noticeable change was a much smoother feeling power delivery, and of course the ease of changing the CAT when needed.

If you can find one in a breakers, why not, get the cat too and have a custom back box cobbled together

Gonna go for a decat and just keep my old cat thats on the car at the mo for MOT purposes!
