172 cup gearbox- recon or new one?

Hi guys,

Wondered if anyone could help me as 1st gear has gone on my
Gearbox but I'm left with the decision do I get it reconditioned
Or buy a second hand one? And if I do what one do I get as I've
Read somewhere that the 172 and 172 cup boxes are different?

Any help would be appreciated
