172 cup shocks

right is the front shock and wish bone differnt on the cup model from the normal 172 ???

also do are they chain timed or have a belt ???

They have a cam belt, it needs changing at 5 years or 72k wyhichever is first, although most folk get the belt gone early.
Your aux belt needs doing at 36k or three years (again which ever comes first)

how much of a pig is a cam belt to change, looks like a job and half :S

You'll need the locking tools to do it if your going to do it yourself. If not you'll have to pay to get it done by a speacialist etc.

The 172 phase 1 can have 172 Cup front shocks as a stright swop, but on mine it affected the tracking very badly.
