172 cup vs Williams

I was just wondering which car you consider to be better around a track? When i first came on this site i hated the mk2 clio and was in love with the williams an valver, but now im love the 172 cup an think that this will be my next car.. I know this will create some very mixed opinions but all are welcome as im just intrestead in what people think.

thanks matt

Personaly I would rather buy Willy then Cup 172, lately two friends races cup vs Willy and cup had no chance even with stronger engine. Plus on the track willy should be more aggressive

I rekckon this will be a long thread ;)

In my opinion they are both good round a track, never drove a 172 on track but my Willy sticks like sh*t to a blanket round Oulton

Money says this will make 10 pages!

Different cars, different eras. Both are very good cars and considering the willy is 13 odd years old they do pretty well.

Would prefer a williams if it was only for a track and not a daily runner. On the Road it would be the cup

Eddd, the guy thats done a few laps of the ring says the cup is faster but the gearing on the williams is better. (round the ring)

Defo the the williams.

I wouldnt say the 172 (in any guise) is inferior...far from it...its just that with a williams setup you get the feeling that no matter what speed you arrive at a corner youre going to make it round.

In standard form Id probably take the Williams, purely due to the levels of feedback you get from the car.

Well this is really sad, but i think id like the 172 cup just as its a newer car an iv never had a nice shiny car (although my naples bloody gleams in the sun). But the williams is a classic, i havent driven one but iv drove a valver an that was exciting so imagine that the williams must be  o by the way i have experience with fast cars, iv driven alot, scooby, evo makkinen, astra gsi 2.0 turbo are just a few to list so im not going to have any troubles control the lil mean machine...

A Williams will blow the doors off a cup on a track - i consider the williams to be a much better car and are much faster in a straight line to

 ^^ now now Bayliss they are both as good as each other

Hehe im just messing, it was nicely controlled.

Glad you think so, my brown pants said otherwise...lol :D

IMO i would say the cup would be fastr on a track, maybe by a fair margin but put them botrh on a country road and the cup would struggle. All assuming same skill level!

  Nippy white cup

Yep wouldnt be a big difference imo but the risks you are willing to take would be the deciding factor.

LOL

@ Monkey...nice link hehe

I could bet that willy will be faster round the track ;)

Andyvalver wears the racing driving boots of correctness.

We shall see for sure which is better this summer at Ty Croes.

Im fully expecting to see a certain Willy spec clio muller the 172/182 variants.

I reckon on track, standard for standard (an no willy owners, decat, zorst and cams dont count as standard as some of you seem to think;)) same driver etc the Cup would be quicker but not by much. Less than perfect surface, Id favour the Willy.

i would have to say the cup, although never driven a williams. would be awesome to see the go head to head and a track:)

WTF you on about, decat, stainless sys, filter, cams, pulleys and remap are standard tho???

in honesty the Cup is prolly quicker in most cases for the straight line blasts (recon a Willy engine though and it will be a different story), not sure on the handling side tho, ive only briefly driven a 172 and not a Cup, but I would expect the Williams to handle better on any surface. You want more of a track Williams? Simple, do what they did on the Cup and 172, low profiles with stiff sidewall. lol

people on here seem to be thinking the williams will beat the cup in a straight line ?? is this right, ive never driven a williams but have owned a 172 and now a 182 cup and would have thought the 172 cup would definately win in a straight line ????

dunno, maybe the 172s do spank the Williams in a straight line... but judging by 1/4 mile times for equivalent mods it would seem not to be the case. Ive pasted 172s, but my car was not standard at the time, plus racing a Clio that can do 140mph in 4th your always going to lose eventually if your in another Clio. lol

Prolly close or losing out in a willy straight line. But circuits have corners, and having driven a 172 and owning a valver Id suggest the willy would spank a 172/182 variant around corners.

  172 Cup

TBH this post is going to do nothing but go over old ground.

How many laps are we talking? Can we make it 100 and then the 10 year old might fall apart....

Hmm, although going off the number of posts on here Griff, the 172 engine will be leaking oil before it gets on track and itll probably bust its chocolate engine mounts halfway round the first lap while your busy wondering what that rattle is at 4k.
