Guys just a quick question, whats the difference between a ph1 head and a ph2 head?
Cheers
Sandy

The only real difference is the exhaust ports, phs2/cup/182 heads all have smaller exhaust ports which flow approx 30% less

I just bought a 172 ph 1 as a spare, so I assume if it doesnt have vvt then it wont run on my ph2

i've not seen a phs1 without vvt.

If you have a non vvt engine is more likely to have come off a laguna or espace.

Sounds a lot that  - going by Renaults performance data stats, it dosent seem to make much of a difference in terms of figures but would it be a advantage for folk to have a ph1 172 head on their 182 etc or have the exhaust ports opened up a bit?

Always wondered if i did the right thing having a ph2 head ported and put on my ph1 :(

The phs2's head is a diff casting and doesnt have the ex ports CNC'd like the phs1's.

Performance is not affected as the engine output is not at a level where the flow ratio becomes a hinderance.

You can have TOO much exhaust flow.

The phs2's ports are also different in their internal geometry so you cant really make a phs2 into a phs1 ex port as ALOT of material needs to be removed.
