172 Decat Help Required

I am thinking of decating the exclusive as I want a little bit more noise and possibly performance from the car.

I have been looking and I think its probably cheaper to get a custom one made up then to buy one from somewhere like ktec.

I have just got a couple of queries;

1) When I had my 197 decat on it developed a really bad flat spot at 2.6k revs - is this likely to happen with the 172?

2) I know there are Lambda sensors on the cat - would the exhaust manufacturer simply plug the sensors into the decat?

3) Is there anything specific I would need to ask the guy making the decat to do?

You won't get the full benefit from a decat without a remap. Probably easier/cheaper to get one from the NWPerformance group buy than get it specially made.

Im not really that wonderful on the subject, tbh im learning as i go mostly and also picked stuff up over the years working with relatives and the like but my guess to your second question about the Lambda sensor would be that they will either move it or the other possibilty would be to disable it. Dont take my word as definitive but thats my guess anyway.

1) No. You'll notice it revs much easier. But no flat spot.

2) Yup. Two holes required and insert the lambdas. I have the thread size written down somewhere, but someone on here will know.

3) Make it fit. lol. I think mine was 2.5" bore, although mine was silenced too.

Cheers mate, so the lambdas just screw into the decat then?

Yup. It might bring on a light on the dash (emissions) as the two lamdas will read the same. Although not in every case.

I had my decat on for 5000 miles and never saw the light come on, but others had it come one straight away. Doesn't affect the running of the car though.

I've got so many lights on the dash, I doubt I would notice a difference.

iv got a silensed decat and my lamba goes into the side of it where the fluffy stuff is in the box, that way it gets a reading but not the same as the other one which stops the light coming on.
if you want a pic there is one in here somewhere

ive not had a light come on neither but you would need a remap to get the most from it like said.
