172 differential problems

I saw a 172 on ebay going for around 5k, seller said that he spent £1500 replacing the diff as its a common fault in the 172, is that correct as i havent heard anyone else mention that before?

Edit: Nope. i've not heard of any 172's having a "usual diff problem"

Yea i work for Renault and heard of a few gearboxs going pop on 172s normally around 70-80,000 miles

its a s**t box, but the diff is ok and never seen it on er?

never seen a diff fail on a jc5 129, its normally the synchros

Seen one diff fail and heard off 2 more failing well.

i'm starting to notice a slight whine from my synchro at 46k, not sure if i should worry or not
