172 Driveshaft / Aux fan belt

  Clio Sport 172 cup
Hello all,

I was after some advice as I feel I may be being led astray by my local ''trusted'' garage. Basically 8 weeks ago my 172 was making screeching noises as soon as I started it up and when I pulled away and turned the driver side front wheel slightly it sounded like there was glass under it, it just made a horrible grinding noise and again when nearly on full lock.

My garage told me it was the drive shaft on the drivers side needed replacing so off I went to Renault and paid £290 for a new part. My garage fitted it with new the new part and everything was fine for around 5 days. After 5 days again the car showed the same symptoms :S So I took it back to the garage and they had a look at it and low and behold it now needs the aux fan belt replacing!? They told me that this is causing all the noises and effects the steering? Can you guys please confirm if this sounds rite? Iam no mechanic and just feel that they are taking the mick out of me. It would now appear to me that they misdiagnosed the original problem and Iam going to have to fork out again!

Oh and the garage comments to me when I said it all sounds a little strange to me were ''thats what I get for owning a Renault!''

They have quoted £290 fitted for the aux fan belt.

If anyone knows any garages in the Ipswich area please let me know.

As always Thank You.

You say grinding on full lock power steering pumps a common problem on these if its a cup its easy as no a/c do this yourself.
