172 driveshaft gaiter renewal

Just had the 36K service done on my 172, said that the N/S outer CV gaiter is split and needs replacing. The part is about £15, but they want £180 to fit it!

Anybody know how easy a new one of these is to fit on a 172?

Also, as the car is only 2 years old, should this be covered under the warranty?

Chris.

think its a consumable after the first year

id get a local place to fit it just get the part from renault that way your warranty stays intact

My was replaced in my 36k service for £230

There is a boot out made by Renault that will stretch over the CV joint, so you do not have to remove the drive shaft.

Car serviced at OC Davies in Cardigan, Wales.

There does seem to be a bit of a known problem with drive shaft/gaiters.

I had a drive shaft replaced under warranty after just 15k miles!! When pressed, the dealer was a little cagey about it.

driveshafts are warranty for the full 3 years but the gaitors arent as there classed as wear and tear items.
