172 engined williams? is there one?

  535d / t5 caravelle
I think i'm going to go down the clio route again sometime, miss the handling of my old valver and the fun factor, but this time i want better bhp per tonne, old car was 160bhp,stripped and had nos,(so it wasn't shy), but i'm thinking along the lines of either a throttle bodied williams or a 172 engined williams maybe on throttles, i want something that will be awesome on a track, but also give some big cars a shock,is there any 172 engined valvers/williams been done yet, surely this is a conversion that can be done nowa days? does anybody know of any? any idea on the costs?

and what kind of times would a throttle boddied williams be doing and at what costs?

and a 172 engined williams (if this is possible)

i realise this has probably been disscussed a fair few times before, but with the way things move forward nowa days, i figured a 172 engined valver/williams could well be on the roads now?

any input guys?

cheers

any more details on it, or links? so is there none on here, thought someone might have done it by now, there's a white valver on here isn't there, willy and throttles? what kind of performance is that doing down the 1/4 mile

dropping in a 172 engine in a mk1 i dont see as a good VFM move. You can tune the 2ltr F7R to similar or higher output very easily and at less cost.

A 172 enigne in there is either a novelty, or a viable option if your looking to push substantial outputs above 230bhp.

i was thinking about the 172 engine, as its already got a fair decent gain on the willy lump, but if its not really been done before, i wouldn't consider it, as like you say it would end up very costly, even with just ironing out the problems probably, i'm quite supprised there's not more throttled bodied clio's around, as from what it sounds adams must fly, i went through 4 gear boxes on my valver, is there a stronger option available? what gearbox is in adam_16v's?

230bhp would be a very nice figure to achieve

turbo willy engined mk1, or turbo172 enigned mk1?

i'm sure that would be awesome, but its to much money to spend on an engine in my opinion, with reliability issues also in mind, i dont really want it turbo'd, it would have to be throttle boddies, i'm thinking i can get a fairly well sorted valver hybrid/williams for 3-4k, and then stick throttles on it, for another 2k,(is that what they go for?)

Nick Hill is doing a 172 valver for himself

nice one i'll enquire with him about it, is this just a one off, or do you reckon it could be a conversion for punters in the near future?

speak to BenR and MATT_BLACK too, they both offer these as a DIY kit or can do it for you iirc if you are interested.

personally I'd go for the F7R, as its easier to do, cheaper to tune and better to tune.

ignore first bit, Matt's just posted... lol

any idea's on how much a throttle boddie conversion would set you back?

2.5k sound about right? fitted?

bout 4k+, best speaking to someone like BenR, AndyGDI etc, there's only a few places that have done them... in fact Ben and Andy are only people I know of and both are rapeeeed and sound the tits!

well thats a fair bit more than i expected, but i suppose they must take a fair bit of setting up

yeah, the kit's not cheap to buy, then you need stand alone ECU, custom rad, or relocated (which would mean modifying the subframe anyway...) then mapping. lot of work involved, I saw the build for the white clio from here when Mehdi had it and it was a b**ch of a job, but I'm sure Ben could do one without any problems now it's developed. performance on that car is unreal though, a proper Scooby and Evo killer.

Hillpower built a throttle bodied williams 5 or 6 years ago the bloke who owns it moved abroad and took the car with him he rallies it and hasnt missed a beat since

Last i heard he was doing it for himself. I'd expect if you wanted him to do it he would though.

dont think nick was doin it for himself, cus i have in my valver a williams engine, and that engine was taken out of a williams to make way for a 172 engine. its a guy nick knows he's not on any of the forums though.
