172 exclusive advice



  09 Audi A4 Sline 170
Hi,

I have seen a 172, it has recently been brought over to N Ireland through the trade originally being a UK mainland car, the guy says the tax book classes it as an Exclusive model. (link attached) Is there any way to know if it is a genuine model and anything in particular to look out for? He says it has a clear HPI report and has 90k on it. With no accident damage. Any other questions I should be asking the seller?

How can you tell, Excuse my lack of knowledge, hence the question. Like I said, the seller mentioned that it had "exclusive" on the V5

Exlusive were only on the ph1 172, came only in scarab green, had full cream leather interior and BBS alloys.

That is a bog standard ph2 172.

Anyone any pics of where the timing belt and aux belt are and how to tell if they have defo been changed if no paperwork to prove is available?

if thats the case get it changed it will f**k up more than likely and then bye bye engine

If there is no paperwork to support a change, then it's not been done.

My 2001 ph1 is on it's third set of belts; the first one snapped, so they do go! If there's no evidence of it being done then I would budjet £5-600 and/or get that amount knocked off the purchase price. HTH

Is the £5-600 for both belts and is this price based on Renault/specialist charges?

Seller has said he will change the timing belt if needs be?

Yes that's dealer prices. A specialist should charge less, however, make sure you're confident that the seller can do the job properly. Many tales abound of botched jobs - search on here and I'm sure you'll find plenty.

If you can't get money knocked off for belts mate, walk away. Do not buy this car if bloke at garage says he is gonna change cambelt.

Don't rush into buying as there are plenty of very well cared for examples floating about for 2.5-3k. Surely it'd be better for you to come over the water for a tidy car with belts done, than spending £600 on new car..
