172 Exhaust Blow on rear section joint

My Cars just passed its Mot, Wahoo! but i got an advisory of
(rear section at joint) exhaust system has a minor leak of gases

Had a quick look and I was expecting to see 2 pipes (one slighter bigger than the other) that slot together and I'd just tighten it up, but I don't see that, just a pipe with like a circular bit over it.. is that normal?

Anyone got any pictures or a diagram of what i should be looking at? or point me in the right section to what's blowing?

Be careful with this one - the exhaust can deterioate VERY quickly and literally fall off as I found out! Get it replaced ASAP (the whole system cat back) being a 2002 car on its original exhaust replacing the lot is best.

Seconded, my exhaust sounded different on Tuesday morning 06:45, by 07:45 it had dropped...parked up in work, then left work at 17:30, and it was on the floor by 17:35....they deteriorate V.V.V.quickly.

It wasn't too bad for me as I'm a bloke with a fair bit of upper body strength to remove the piece that was caught in the holder, but wouldn't want to be in the middle of nowhere doing it, especially if you are on your own.

Just be careful hun.

Cheers guys.. personally I've not noticed any difference myself, but guess I should get it sorted before it falls off. I think its on its 2nd one already anyway! and cars only done 26k..

Mine on the cup lasted 3 years and 6 weeks! 59,200 miles!

well you were lucky, I know of about 5 people off top of my heads who's went at 29k.

Its the short stop start driving that f***s exhaust so quick, people who drive their car for longer on journeys, will most likely keep theres on for longer.

Right then.. can you tell me how many bits the exhaust comes in? as i'm lost!

This is what i have, looks like its been cut off previously and just re-joined

It's blowing where i've marked it..

Where you've marked it, follow it to the backbox, and its where the pipe connects to the backbox which came away. A bit nearer to the backbox than where you've labelled.

Mines not snapped.. yet! its just blowing a little.. but i'm not sure how far back i have to replace. HELP!

don't have to replace anything, just remove the clamp, bit of exhaust paste and reseal it
