172 exhaust gains

Ive been reading a lot of posts about people getting "perfomance" exhaust systems on their 172s and spending a lot af money on them. But is there any powergains over a back box and de-/sports-cat?

Ive taken a good look under my car and I just cant see the point in getting a new system since the standard system is quite wide, about 2" I reckon. There is no need for a 3" system under a NA engine and you probably just loose power.

So is it just for sound(fart)?

The 70mm Supersprint system gave a definite gain over standard cars at a recent RR day. Up to 10bhp at the wheels, but I dont know about other systems though.

Virtually all standard exhausts can be improved upon because theyre a compromise due all the regulation bolx manufacturers have to adhere to.

Turbo motors see the most gain, n/a not as much, but the gain is there.

I have a Remus back box on mine which I really like and Im going to get a de- or sports-cat but I can´t see the point in replacing a perfectly fine exhaust apart from that. Ok the cat and back box is/was working but its loosing me power(the cat) and the Clio really needed some nice exhaust tips on the back.
