172 exhaust

Anyone know where I can get a 172 exhaust (preferably standard renault) or maybe a magnex or something similar before christmas?

Mine fell off today & I really need the car over the xmas / new year period!

Standard Renault exhaust including fittings including cat costs about £600 IIRC.

I have a Mk1 172 backbox from Renault but Im selling it to 172gal, sorry!

Jesus! looks like Ill be going stainless then! I dont need the cat, its sheared off on the weld just before the backbox & the nearest join I can see is just after the cat :(

I got a mk2 backbox sitting in my garage but I really want to keep it incase I go back to standard.

Its a Mk1 172.

Cheers for the advice, Ill send him a pm. The only other issue is I live on the Isle of Wight!! pain in the arse to get anything delivered.

Can you change just the backbox then? Im sure there was no join in mine till the cat?
Yes but I would go cat back personally. Mid sections are prone to rotting.

Ill have another look tomorrow then, all of the other joins looked like welds

Ahhh well, could be a good excuse to whack a magnex on there :)

Dont think so.

Very tempted with the K-Tec stealth stainless system. Theyve got one in stock but no way they can get it to me before the new year :(

I have just recently got the KTEC Stealth one fitted to my Cup. I think it is really good. Takes a bit of fitting to avoid it rattling on the static rear axle, but cant fault it other than that. Good customer service too from the boys at KTEC.

The standard exhaust is one single section up to the cat. Cut it near rear axle to remove it.

Thanks for that decks, Ive got a KTEC stealth on its way, hopefully wont have too much trouble fitting it.

Is your loud?

I have not had an aftermarket exhaust before and I dont think it is too loud. They have a silenced centre section so apparently that makes it not too loud. I think it sounds quality, more purposeful. Makes the cup sound how you would expect a car like that to sound. It sounds quiet deep on tick over and quiet loud on acceleration.

That is exactly what happened to mine a couple of weeks ago and I only heard it blowing slightly a couple of days earlier and couldnt believe it when it just dropped off so soon and was only supported by the metal hanger thing, which had to be cut completely off (by a kind man who was behind me and saw what happened).

I only noticed it blowing slightly the day before it snapped, it was hardly anything, thought id be able to drive it like it till after xmas till it fell off!

Mine rusted through the pipe near the back box. Noticed it blowing slightly then 24 hours later the back box was hanging on by only the hanger.

Today i noticed mine blowing as well.

Ive done about 10 mile & noticed it getting louder.

Got home tonite & had a look, the backbox is hanging off.

Lucky it hasnt fell off, cars only done 25K, whats urs done?

This exact same thing happened to me this week. Noticed it blowing on the way to work on Monday. Ordered a Magnex same day but got really messed about. Driving to work Wednesday the entire backbox fell off and it was just held on by the rubber thing which i had to cut off!

After the problems with the Magnex i rang my local Powerflow dealer who managed to squeeze me in the same day! I got a full custom mate stainless exhaust for £259.99. It looks so much better and sounds fantastic.

Powerflow are the future!!!!!

(By the way, ive got a Mk1 172 which has done just short of 29k)

the standard exhaust needs to be cut if you want to replace any section after the cat, thats how standard renault backboxes come

I have a cat-back standard renault system, that was cut just above the rear bar for removal, if anyone wants to make me a small offer for it?
