172 handbrake

Bought a 172 cup recently and having problem with hand brake.Tried fitting new set of rear pads but it still wont hold on my steep drive,although it recently passed mot without issue.Are they just poor handbrakes in general or is there a setting procedure ? .

Could be a stretched cable. There is an adjusting nut underneath the car, you will have to undo one side of the exhaust heat shield near the cat/centre section to get to it. Try tightening it with a long socket and see if that helps.
