172 Known Suspension Problem

  Turbo'd MX-5 MK4

I took my MK2 172 into Renault the other day to have a few bits and pieces fixed, whilst i was there i asked them to check the nsf wheel because of metal on metal scraping noises, they checked this and said that they couldnt find anything out of order and that they were however aware of a known problem with all of the 172s (presumably the new ones) which Renault are currently investigating, anyone else aware of this? Its news to me.

yep, had the same problem when car was on full lock... like when swinging round in a car park.

Dealer had car for a week. finally fixed it with new struts i believe.

Oh well it wasnt you, but there was a guy in my local dealer with exactly the same problem. They told him they couldnt help cos they didnt know what the problem was but they would contact him once they had more info!!

Know it doesnt help but at least you not the only one.

yeah, it looks like there is a serious problem with the suspension but surprise surprise renault are being reluctant to own up and provide information.

Perhaps BobRTE or Jeremy Townsend might have some information on this!

this is going to very costly for Renault if the only fix for it is to replace the struts, i personally think that the truth is more along the lines of, yes they know there is a problem, and yes they know how to fix it, but they are stalling until they find out the cheapest and easiest way to resolve it.
