172 Limiter problem

Compared to other 172's like ali's etc my 172 has a very low limiter. It starts at about 6500rpm.
In third i only get to just over 80 before i'm hitting it.

What could be wrong?

As an example in 3rd gear i hit the limiter as the shift light comes on.

Could be some kind of temperature sender/ECU fault not recognising the oil temp is high enough...... Take it renault.

Do you mean warmed up or is it just warm according to the water temp gauge. Sorry to sound picky, but mine flies round to 7k plus without hitting a limit when it's warm. I thought about 12 miles or so was the usual distance over which to warm the engine.

An hour should be plenty of time. Try seeing what the limiter point is in fourth gear as you will have longer to accurately see when it kicks in. (Motorway at nigh seems the best place)
