172 Mk 2 - Lowering

  Renault Laguna Coupe

Ive been offered an Eibach Pro kit for £116.67 + £9.40 p&p. Is this a good price, and is this a good mod? Its from motorsportsworld.co.uk. They reckon it gives a 30mm drop. Has anyone fitted these springs to a 172? What did it cost for fitting?
Thx, Mike.

Thats a good price. Im paying about £130 for them including VAT but dont have to worry about delivery as Im getting them fitted at the same time as my 17" alloys. They will be going on around the end of next week, basically as soon as my wheels arrive.

Im paying just under £60 fitting for these and my alloys, which isnt too bad, at R-Tec in St Albans.

Getting my oil and filter changed for Mobil 1 0W40 next week too as Ihave now done just over 7000 miles.

If your unsure post your email add and when I get them fitted Ill send you a copy so you can decide for yourself!

On the subject of lowering!! is the kit 4 springs or two? ie. does the mk.2 have trailing arms that need adjusting like a saxo, or is it a case of fit the springs and yipee its all lowered?!!

The kit I am getting is the Eibach Pro kit which consists of 4 30mm lowering springs. Also as far as I know it is just a case of fitting different springs and away you go. If you look under the rear of the car you can see the springs. Ill let you know in a few days.

4 springs? I though the Clio had a torsion bar at the back... or does it have springs as well... or am I talking complete rubbish?

The Clio 16v, RSi 8v and Williams do have a torision bar at the rear. The Latest shapes, Phase 2 and 3 have springs alround(This includes both 172s- No torsion bar as you either have one or the other.)
Have got my 4 springs, Ive got Apex 40mm(Got them of Fred), Just waiting to get them fitted!!!

The Eibach should take you 172 slightly lower than mine as the 172s are lower to begin with. Is this the the equilvalant to going for a 60mm drop on mine??

Probably the equivalent of between 50mm and 60mm Adtmits. Just rung R-Tec about my alloys and they wont get them until next week at the earliest so fitting wont happen for a few weeks yet

Having mine fitted on Friday, £50 at my local garage, used him before and hes always done top notch job. Should make my Super Ts look mighty fine.

I havent told my insurance company, but Ive kept my old wheels to put on in the event that it needs inspection. Springs can invalidate parts of the Warranty But Ill get them changed back if I need to claim on it!!

Well I guess I can let the cat out the bag since I know there are very few of my wheels in the country! They are 17" Ace 197s; basically twin 5 spokes a bit like the Civis Type-Rs if you have seen them.

Insurance wise puts it up by about £100 for alloys, springs and induction (when I get it in the future). I know of too many people who have been stuffed by not declaring everything. If you write your car off you wont be able to change anything, espcially if the police are involved. Warranty wise just invalidates the suspension because Im changing the springs. Will also be changing the shocks to Konis at somepoint, when I have the £400 needed!

There is a picture of them in Fast Car on Page 115 in the advert for South West Tyres. I know someone who has them on a VR6 Golf.

Just spoken to GT Tuning, who do their own, track-day-proven, suspension kit for the 172. £399 fitted, including re-setting all the geometry and checking/tighening all the suspension. Lowers the car 25mm up front and 30mm on the rear. And, they reckon it stops the tail wagging!!

Quite expensive, but track proven

Bloody rip off!!!! They quoted me that for an "uprated" kit for my car Lowering springs + Resetting all geometry. I eneded up doing it myself and it cost me £90 for the 60mm springs and £25 for the re-alingnment. Dont pay £399, theyre taking the piss!! If your going to spend that sort of money get koni adjustables (100X better than GTTunings "uprated pack")
