172 off the road. Gutted.

I have had my 172 8 weeks today and am just totally gutted. Mid last week, when cold the engine started whining when cold. Took it to renault who told me that it would be need to be booked in and its due for it s service so id have to wait 10 days. I told her I thought it was coming form the Cambelt. On Saturday things seem to get quite a bit worse and the engine was making a worrying rattle. Called the AA out whod said that basically his conservative estimate was that the cambelt tensioner has gone and that there is a least 1 top bearing gone maybe more.

Renault wont give me a courtsey car as ive lost the copy of my driving licence. What responsibilties do they have to me ???? the cars done 11k and was 12mths old last tues. If they have to rebuild the top of the engine how long will it take???

Am really hacked off as it has been in the dealers for 6 days including today and yesterday. Parts replaced are:

Seat Cover, Roof Seals, 3 tyres, boot lock, wiring loom replace, centre cap

other bits: Seat Belt warning lights, head lamp alignment, knocking under full lock (awaiting to be seen)

Ive done 4k in the car and can honestly say I havent hammered it.

Apparently the is a recall for the belt tensioner with revised parts, but this is only fittent when problems occur. Apparently there is no engine damage, it was just misfiring. It will be ready tomorrow. Hmm, we shall see, I hope so as im drving round in my mums Ka at the moment.

Had the same problems with renault, there dealers are usless and customer services seem to just as unhelpfull - your better off talking to a badger about your problems....a badger will be much more helpfull

My car whines when its cold, but it has done it since ive had it. Should i be worried? has any one else had the problem with their car knocking on full lock?

A friend took her clio to Renault the other day because her side airbag deployed on its own while she was doing 70 on the dual carrageway almosty finishing her. The local Renult dealers are being rather difficult as the ECU has registered a side impact but there is no damage, they quoted £3500 to put a new passenger seat in as they are not sure Renualt UK will pay for it under warranty. Because there is no damage the insurance wont pay either.

Renault dealers are crap.

Not what you need with an 8 week old toy is it! mine is nearing 2 years, i have only done 7k miles (may be 8k), so far the ecu has been replaced on warranty, the metal housing covering wiring at back of engine fell off whilst driving, got my fair share of rattles and the service and airbag lights keep coming on and off! The air bags are becoming more of a worry than anything! Fair enough a new car should expect teething problems, but when renault know that there are problems then i think it should be checked or recalled pronto!

Ive got a bunch of technical notes about renault problems relating to my car, some that could be fatally dangerous and very expensive should they arrise during high-speed yet as the tech notes say, "When to take action : upon customer complaint"

Welcome to the world of Renault! If its any consolation Ive got three cars that are all off the road at the moment for one reason or another - the Clio turbo for a new gearbox and clutch, the Nissan 200 for a new set of pistons and a turbo, and the Fiat for some welding to get it throught the MOT!

Well the car was promised for last thing today, unfortunatley the tesnioner kit that came was marked so they have ordered another one to be on the safe side!!! (So renault do have standards!!!) Ive got really important interview tomorrow and now im having to get lifts to and from it and it over 40miles away.

Whilst im still annoyed, i just want the car back on the road so I can return to normal life!!!!

best thing to do for future mate is get another copy of your license, then at least you will have a courtesy car, I guess the car wasnt new when you got it (as you said it needed a service and youve only had it for 8 weeks which is a lot of driving to rack up 12000 miles heh)

No the car wasnt new, it was an ex-demo. Yeah agree, will make sure ive got copy of my license. However, ive had cars of them before and its notbeen an issue. Ive done approx. 3k in the car and its done 11k.

Renault offered me a courtesy car for when it goes in for the airbags to be "rewired", but because im under 25 the excess is £500!, it was only for an afternoon so id rather catch the bus! she then told me they run a bus service for customers to drop them home! blimey!

Hmm, renault need to get the story straight. The service mgr rang later this afternoon to apologies for the WRONG parts being ordered!!! There was me thinking they were DAMAGED parts. Anyway, it turns out after he checked they were both damaged and wrong, what a conicidence!!!!

Anyway got a courtsey car finally. new megane. Quite nice, am happy now!!!

Thats b****cks about the excess mate, if its being done under warranty the excess should be waivered! Im 20 and because I kicked up a fuss they got rid of the waiver! I refused to pay the £15 to waive it as it was Renaults fault so they should pay it, needless to say I never have an excess on any of their courtesy cars!!!
