172 On Board Computer

Chaps,

Any idea how accurate these are? Itd just that on the first tank of petrol in the 172, I apparently managed 40.1 mpg. Most of the driving was to and from work, 20 miles each way, in a queue of traffic doing about 45-50mph.

I imagined that being such a nippy little beast, the 172 wouldnt manage that much.

Any views?

Ta.

Its a surprisingly economical car as long as you dont drive it like you stole it. The figure is probably accurate.

Sounds believable. I havent reset mine for ages and ages. It sits at 33.9. and thats a mixture of all types of driving....

33mpg with mixed driving too. Been driving really carefully the last couple of days after I reset it and Im getting 40+mpg.

Erm, must be doing something wrong then, mine usually wont go higher than 30. i get about 250 miles to 30Quids worth of fuel. Is this what everyone else gets approx?

Or have i got a problem?!?!!

Well I had a Clio 1.4 16v RXE before my 172 and the 172 competes very nicely in terms of fuel consumption...thats one of the advantages of having a big engine in such a light shell...for normal comuting the engine is hardly doing any work at all.

It was the same when I had a 1.8 8v mk1 golf...had better consumption than my mates 1.3 8v mk1 golf.

Even when your foot gets a little heavy the 172 is still comparatively light on fuel comapred to other cars it competes with. I dont think Ive ever gotten an average of higher than 10km/litre (sorry I dont know miles/gallon)

When I bought my first 172, I drove it all the way home under 4000rpm when running it in and managed around 45mpg on a 200 mile trip ! Think that is the first and last time I have seen 40mpg on my 172 computer !

:devilish:

Yeah, i like them funny roundabout things... Clios are cool...

Im just totally in love with mine, just gutted i cant spend more money on it cause i got a house to buy for now! POTSNPANS and stuff here i come!!!

But i think the Computer things are as accurate as Gypsy Rose Lee...

NOT VERY...

Anyway i had a Subaru WRX with 315 BHP before my ickle clio and THAT TOOK THE PISS WITH PETROL MAN!

Used to get about 130/40 miles to 40quid, thats why she went walkies... thats not my idea of a fun car...

Ok reading a lot of these posts ur all very happy with your consumption. I had a 1.4 sri corsa b4 my cup and in a good week it would only cost me 40 quid. fun driving at it was a 10er a day!!!

Mine sits at about 32/35 all the time no matter how hard i drive it, and even when driving like a old boy i still get the same.

Mine seems spot on..

£34 to fill from reserve = 40 litres = 8.8 gallons

Get about 320 miles from that to reserve again .. which is about 36 mpg which is what it says.

Was runnin on normal unleaded but now optimax all the time and it seems better mpg from that. So the extra money for optimax actually seems to save money!

Try resetting it every so often, you will get a more accurate measurement. Once you reset it, it will stay blank for 0.3 miles.

Its accurate to about 1/2 % of the real value and it under reads as far as my calculations.

Yes they under read.... me and my mate worked it out a while back on mine.

My average mpg is between 38 - 42 mpg on normal driving and at heavy driving no lower EVER than 35mpg ..... cheap as chips !!!

  172 cup,s2 rs turbo

they are just a rough estimate as far as renault is concerned but they do seem pretty accurate. i average about 35mpg in my cup but it does get a fair bit of boot.

I do 14k a year and the mpg is really not a problem. I went down the motorway at 70 the other week and I got 44mpg but that was being extra carefull like.....but I was going 70 all the way.

If I stick to 60mph I average 39- 43mpg.......its driving in slow moving traffic that gets the mpg down or giving it some jipp !!!

im driving up to scotland this weekend, and on the drive there on friday and the one back on sunday night i expect the clio to do no less than 45mpg. with my old golf vr6 i got just under 30mpg on the same journey. 3 tanks of petrol compared to 1 1/2 i hope.

the 172 gets better mpg than my friends laguna 1.6. something to do with less weight to shift, and its not needing to use as much grunt to shift it or something...

i gave it huge welly on the a43 the other day and it came back with the glorious figure of 32mpg. the golf would have said 17... how much do i love my clio again?!
