172 Performance Figs

Ive read your forum for some time now, and a lot of the time i hear you all claiming your 0-60, 1/4miles, and 0-100s. How are you timing these? Mate and a stop watch aint accurate. You would need to go to about 105-6mph to actually get your 0-100 time.

Ive read of 6.8secs for a standard 172(non-cup) Mid 14s 1/4 and low 17s for the 100. This seems a bit fast to me!!! Prove me wrong and ill shut up!!

In top gear magazine this month they test a 172, cooper S works and PUG180. I guess these drivers would be good and experienced drivers and the figures stated are no-where near the figures you lot are claiming. The 172 comes out slowest. These times are all with proper timing equipment and not a stopwatch. Here are the figures-----

172>> 7.4 to 60. 15.9 to 1/4. 19.3 to 100

Cooper Works>> 7.3 to 60. 15.7 to 1/4. and 19.2 to 100

Pug180>> 7.3 to 60. 15.8 to 1/4. and 20.3 to 100.

As ive said the drivers would probably be experienced in these sprints so i would find the excuse of a **** driver a bad one. Okay on a different day these figures might fluctuate .2/3 of a sec but not what you lot are claiming

If any of you lot are saying mag figures are crap, why are they??? Its done with calibrated timing equipment.. If they are understated for a clio, then theyll be understated for everything, i dont think so!!!!

Craggy, what times are you getting in your very lightly modded vts??? Is there any proof of these times??? what are your sprint times??? IM NOT HAVING A DIG OR A GO AT ANY OF YOU DRIVERS, I JUST THINK SOME OF THESE SPRINTS ARE BEING EXAGGERATED.

most of them have been done at york dragstrip and santa pod for most people also using ap22 timing gear aswell for most so not mate and stopwatch

craggys got all his antics on film too, i mean come on, theres no way a 172 BHP engine in a car that weighs just over a tonne is gonna take well over 19 seconds to get to 100, 17s about right, i reckon mines a bit quicker tho ;)

mid 14s, is that not what your 3.0 v6 is claiming??? remember this has over 250bhp. It seems very quick to me.

Ive ran 12.87 1/4 in my 382bhp 360lb ft Pulsar GTIR. To say its only 1 and a 1/2secs quicker than a standard 172, is basically untrue.

whys that then? time speaks for itself? Unless youre saying York Dragways timing gear it out? doubt it though...

err, did i say challenge? i said friendly race! Then wed see what a 1.5 second gap is, in my experience thats loads...as u well know.

Anyway youve not answered my question, how do u explain my time then?

Your Pulsar is heavier and has power sapping 4wd too.

Most times claimed on here are either backed up or flamed - ive done some cracking times with my AP22 but im not 100% certain that its set up correcly - thus nobody on here has seen them yet.

EVO mag timed the MK1 172 at 6.6 to 60!

Autoexpress timed the MK2 at 6.7 to 60!

I have run a 15.0 1/ mile in my bog standard 172!

382bhp??? Proof of 1/4 mile times. How u got 382 bhp from a 2 litre engine??? How much u spent. You want proof of times, we want proof of bhp!

Maclaren f1 does 1/4 mile in about 11 secs so yours is only 1 1/2 sec slower than one of the fastest cars in the world!!!

Chill Paddy. Everyone knows that theres no place to hide at York - they put all the times on the internet. No arguments.

im off to buy a 1000bhp skline then go b**ch on a gtir forum telling them their 1/4 mile times are rubbish and unreasonable

LOL when I came on here at first I couldnt beleive how fast these cars are either but proper 1/4 mile times dont lie.

mac, my saxo pulls sub 15 sec 1/4 miles all day long, it reaches 110 on the speedo in about 18 seconds, although im certain 100mph is a few indicated mph less. this is with de-cat and induction kit. i yesterday fitted a citroensport exhaust which makes my de-cat redundant and a waste of money as this has it built in, and i cant tell if its made a diff but it aint no slouch. not gonna go into what iv beat but its a lot.from40-100 it really flies. il be at santa pod at the rtoc day anyways so maybe you can watch for yourself eh.

Oh and someone should tell him about Renaults massive performance increase once its loosend up. Its strange but true - 106 Gtis & Saxo VTSs are the same. Lots of mags use new cars not yet run in.

Remember the 8.6 to 60 106 gti LOL

Here goes, this is how you get 382bhp out of a 2.0

Full engine re-build by Hiteq performance centre inc lightened and balanced flywheel, conrods and crank. HKS forged Pistons. HKS head gasket. Polished ported and gas flowed. HKS front mounted intercooler. HKS high lift cams. HKS dump valve HKS plugs.HKS induction. Hybrid Turbo with 360 degreebearing and modified compressor. Mongoose s/s exhaust. cusco oil seperator. mocal oil cooler. High flow fuel pump. HKS EVC4 electronic boost controller. HKS S-AFC Fuel computer. Apexi Ignition timing controller,

These are the ones i can remember. Ask anyone who knows the slightest about car engines and this set up easily takes the 220bhp standard to 380 Brake modified. The turbo is only running at 1.2 bar, ive not had the b****cks to whip it up to 1.4-1.6

Im not on here winding you up trust me i really like the clio172 as an everyday car. Craggy youve got 1 fast car for a 130brake, i would imagine it struggling past 100 though. Not sl*gging just interested. Whoever says about the nissan skyline, if youve got an extra 50grand and 5500 insurance, then ill take you serious. I know of the guy with the 1000bhp skyline, he too races it at crail, and ive seen his car parked up on the road in Dundee, pretty impressive, As to date i still dont think hes hit a sub 10, i think it was around 10.13
