172: Phase 1 or Phase 2?

Car  172 FF
Im looking at upgrading my Phase 1 1.2 16v to a 172. Not sure if i should stick with phase 1 or sell out and get a phase 2. What are the differences, and more importantly which is better? Any advice appreciated many tahnks

ph2 looks better, ph1 drives better.

(and is technically faster, but don't start that in here or all hell will break loose)

I'd buy a mint ph1.

i love my phase 1 to bits as it doesn't have all the electronics like traction control etc etc but the phase two looks better inside

I don't, fcuking thing spent more time in our car park than with you!

whats the diff between 172 and 172 cup? do u not get a half leather interior in the cup? im confused :S

When I bought my 172 I looked at numerous alternatives that included 2 mk1 172s, a mk2 172, a mk2 172 cup and a 182.

I preferred the interior of the mk2/182, and the exterior was a lot more modern but not necessarily more to my liking.

The 182 was up for a lot of money (this was 2 years ago) so discounted it on those grounds.

The FF mk2 172 was ok, again quite a lot of cash at the time and wasn't blown away, it was decent though.

The Cup was sold before I got there, gutted :p

That left the mk1, for me it was the best option as it ticked most of the boxes, I could live with the exterior (I actually like it the most now), the interior isn't that bad (looks far worse on camera imho with the colours) and importantly for me it was a lot cheaper :p

Price difference isn't so huge now so all I can say is go and drive them, get whichever you prefer :)

Or to look at it another way, get a mk1 :)

nice 1 cheers mate

Low mileage newish ph2 172. Most of the ph1's are starting to get a bit long in the tooth now, and decetnt low mileage ones are getting harder and harder to come by.

everyone who changes from a ph1 to a ph2 always misses the ph1 as the feel it was more fun there are a few on this site

ph1 id suggest as ive driven 2 ph 1's and a 182 and i much preferred the way the ph 1 drives, loads more fun! having said that though, im looking for a 182 and wouldnt buy a ph1 because i want a newish car with warrenty

I had a go in my mates ph2, me no likey!! My ph1 miles better!! But I would say that, so I suggest you try both.

Phase 2 shell with phase 1 running gear personally.

Or if not I'd go for a phase 1 for the driving rarther than the looks etc.

ESP would of saved me from spinning at brands yesterday.

Would probably of increased my lap time however!
