172 shocks... confusion

Gents...

As far as I’m aware one car has 54mm hub spacing (mine) and the other has 60mm(Cup).
I can never remember which is which and that’s why I’m here...

I’ve had a search and what I’m looking to find the answer to is this;

Which shocks do I buy for my Cooksport springs?

RPD have cup shocks cheaper than non cup shocks

I have a NON CUP 172...

BUT...

I could change my hubs if it was worth the extra work?
Is it worth the hassle?
The car is on axle stands and is ready to get more money thrown at it, but if non cup shocks will be just as good, I’ll stick with non cup.

anyone that can shed some decent light on this would be muchly appreciated ?

  Hi comp phase 1
Isn’t it all 182 cup 60mm all others 54mm also 182 cup hubs have a bigger bearing and flang!

All 172’s are 54mm spacing. Buy the 172 Cup shocks.

That is exactly where my confusion lay...

RPD have checked my reg and told me to buy these - https://www.renaultpartsdirect.co.u...ge/renault-clio-172-front-shock-absorber-mk2/

What you’re saying is that these will fit? - https://www.renaultpartsdirect.co.u...t-clio-172-front-shock-absorbers-cup-version/

If this is correct... brilliant as this is what I was after

I’ll await responses before I purchase and I’ll head to the Unit tomorrow to check the spacing.

Thanks all

Yes 54mm will fit all 172's, plus non cup 182's.

Either the standard 54mm or uprated cup 54mm ones will fit. Original spec was the ones RPD recommended but why not upgrade?

All dealers will suggest the OE spec shocks, but as already said, the 172 Cup shocks will fit.

Just remember to get the rears to match, I believe they have been superseded to the 182 Cup spec now but they all fit regardless.

That’s the idea... upgrade to cup speck if it was possible, which it is ?

I knew about the rear dampers, just not the fronts.

Thanks mate

Just get coilovers and do the job once.....

I can’t justify coilovers at this point, but I’ve got a few friends that buy my setup should I wish to upgrade later down the line
