172 starting problems, help!

my mk1 w reg 172 is having intermittant starting trouble as in sometimes it starts up first time others it takes maybe 5 tries. If i unlock the doors with the keyfob sometimes the red round light in the main dash between the rpm and mph clocks flashes and it wont start.

If i relock then unlock the car it may start then as the light is constant red.

Its not a battery as thats been tested and i've checked for loose connections, i'm certain its not starter motor or ignition. which leads me to think immobiliser problem. (also the trip computer is resetting itself when it wont start)

Any ideas or starting points for investigation much appreciated.

Mine does this too, only occasionaly though. I just relock/alarm it and then off again. Always starts first time after that, not sure where you would start though.

TDC sensor maybe...I had the same issue on my 172 mk2. Cleaned the sensor head and all was fine.
