172 Rally Car
Ok first project thread!
The plan
The idea is to build a rally spec clio on a reasonable budget.
The first job was to find a part finished car, finish it and add the motorsport tweeks so i bought this:
Not a bad starting point, Not perfect and needed alot of work but what i liked about it was the spec:
Speedline 2118s 15"x7" ET 38
Leda Coilovers
172 Cup Racer Roll Cage
OMP Steering Wheel and Boss
Compbrake big brake kit (we shall see what it is like)
The other bits on it that were not at the spec i wanted could be sold .
On getting this car home it started be become apparent that some of the work was not really of the standard that i would want to strap myself to and do some of the fastest rallys in the UK. It had some issues with the way the X door bar had been moved (poor welding) also its a phase 1 with a phase 2 front end badly fitted so that needed sorting too, put that together with the amount of finishing work that needed doing ( lots of parts missing and no logbook) and it was a mammoth job
I dont have any pictures of taking it to bits but it will all become irrelevant anyway!
So half way through taking it apart and putting it together in the way that would fit its new purpose, i started to collect bits to reassemble it when the time came. surfing the CS sale threads i came across a "Iceberg Ph2 172 breaking" thread started by .Kev. , i wanted the body kit to sort out the mangled kit i bought with the white car but i ended up buying the whole car including the engine for the princely sum of about £250!
Bonus! no figuring out what parts were missing and where they go ,no messing with the front end or having to get the car vosa checked as it was a cat c with no log book!
After alot of messing about and patience from .kev. i got the car deliverd using shiply (great service if you need something moving)
No pictures of it arriving but hey!
The rebuild
now i had a car that i knew went together i could start fitting the fancy bits from the white car:
Cage
I made it a single door bar on both sides to get rid of the botched welding then painted it in smooth silver hammerite ( good match for iceburg )
Relocated the fuse board
Ran in the braided brake and fuel lines
fitted the battery isolator
Pull cables and cut off buttons
Inside
Outside
BL**DY MSA FUEL SAMPLEING DRY BRAKE EXPENSIVE PIECE OF ******* ( I had an argument with the msa man at the autosport show about this so overkill for club motorsport!) (rant over)
Suspension
Front Brakes
Re routed the rear brake lines and bypassed the proportioning valve
And thats how it looks now on the 28/05/12
Now all i have left is to fit the seats, windows, foot rests , door cards and im done!
Then its setup time!
Big thanks to .kev. and everyone else who has helped out
Cheers for reading !
