172 throttle cable.....ping!

  C63 AMG, F430 & 172
yup mrk1 172 , and its snapped....gutted. got a new cable. but looks like a b**ch to do...any hints?

How many miles had it snapped on? I always worry about mine going as i'm sure i've seen the black plastic rubber guard around it almost shaven away by friction and heat. Looks like its wearing down to the cable.

My wire is going to be changed soon anyway as i'm getting bodies.

Think yourself lucky it lasted that long Ben, mine went at 29k in my ph1 172. The other halfs dad is a mechanic and has his own garage and he fitted the new one and said it was a right b**ch of a job, had to take all the arch liners out and all sorts.

Good luck with it matey.

Easyish.
Get to work now you might make the next meet.
For the moment just bodge the throttle boy so it runs at 4k all the time you remember what thats like don't you?

A sheet of paper for round town 1.8k work and a £1 for high speed motorway stuff.

Think you bought a shitter Ben.

Not had to replace anything mechanical on mine.

Well apart from 3 alternators, a battery, cambelt... *yawn*

Complete piece of p*ss to fit. Even my nana could do it lol

1) Jack car up
2) Take drivers side f/wheel off
3) Unhook cable from throttle body and release
4) unhook cable at throttle pedal
5) take 2 or 3 clips off the sound proofing in the engine bay and pull it back a bit
6) unclip and pull back wheel ach liner (no need to take fully out)
7) unfasten 2 clips holding cable in place along the bulkhead, from the wheel arch (small hands needed) lol **see below photo**
8) feed cable down from engine through to wheel arch
9) pull throttle cable out from its hole in the bulkhead and bin old cable

Fitting new cable:

1) Feed cable in from the top of the engine
2) Feed it through the bulkhead to foot well and hook it up to throttle cable
3) fasten the 2 arkward clips near the bulkhead
4) Connect to TB
