172 uprated springs

  172 phaseII
i was originally going to get coilovers for my 172, then went off the idea of getting them because it would turn out expensive as i would want wheels etc!
currently looking at the option of springs:

http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/quickcode.asp?qcode=42DF4

do love low clios but dont want too much of a harsh ride.
has anybody just replaced the springs?
if so what did you replace them to?
has the handling got alot better?
an bad points like the tyres wearing uneven? or the tracking?

thanks

Eibachs are the way ahead if you ask me.
Got them on my 172 and i cant fault them, transformed the handling no end.
Im sure others will agree.

I replaced my springs with the Apex -40's and the handling is transformed, no body roll and much more direct even with shite front tyres and greasy roads. The ride does obvoiusly suffer but not massively, until you get to a big pot hole then you have to pay for ceramic caps on your teeth. You learn to drive the car differently though and it becomes second nature within a week or so.
Do it.
I'll put a couple of pics up in a sec.

My old ph1 172 on -40mm Apex springs and 17" Super Legs at FCS last year.

Eibach sportlines are the best, you get what you pay for.
You do hate Apex don't you Evo? ;)
I have no doubt in my mind that Eibach are excellent but in terms of VFM, I don't think you can beat the Apex.
Apex are £95 delivered from John2modified whereas the Eibachs are about £150, that's 50% of the price again.

Just that i have had both and there is no doubt the sportlines are far better. You pays your moneys and make your choice.....

Furry muff. I asked wether you had experience of both on the thread I put up a couple of weeks ago but you never replied.
Do you find the ride is less crashy on the Eibachs and is the handling improved even more so?

Yes to both, travel a lot so not always about. For the road they are the best springs, with Koni shocks the improvement goes one step further again...!

I thought about uprating the shocks as well but then the price isn't too far shy off budget coilies. Maybe in the summer.
For now I can't fault the Apex. Until I start paying for replacement dampers LOL.

Koni Sus kit dampers and springs 330 at Tweeks with CS discount. Sell the spring for 80 if you alraedy have Eibachs. so 250 for new dampers.

No where near the expence on coilovers (epecially as they will cost you 150-200 quid to set them up properly).

Cheap as chips....
