172 vs 172 cup

hey every one , is there much difference between a 172 and a 172 cup, as in which would be faster out the two , and for what reason , can any one answet this one

cup is faster, but it is also more likley to kill you (i'm not joking)

no ABS = bad accidents, even for the experienced

that be why its quicker than mine them . how come its lighter what is miss hog to give that much . and are the engine full y the same but with out the air con and abs bits . so the difference is just the weight that make them easter than a 172 them

Indeed. The standard cup lacks ABS, Climate control, Xenons, Auto wipers, auto lights, leather-ish interior.

Never had any need for ABS if you know how to stop the car without it, its not a problem! In the real world you'll not notice the power/weight difference and as realnumber1 says the engines seem to vary quite a bit in power output!

The only think Id say I miss with my Cup over the standard 172 is xenon lights, rest I'm not to bothered about. My main reason for buying the Cup though was because I liked the colour/wheel combo better. I test drove a few standard 172s and to be honest the difference is negligible speed wise unless your into pub talk figures! :)

The cup on paper was quicker,but i doubt anyone on here has the skills to extract that extra performance.

You'll only need it once tbf. I doubt there's more than one or two people on here that could brake and steer in an emergency, as effectively as an ABS equipped car.

The brakes are still quite good despite not having ABS.

Every car differs, so does the driver, so there is no real answer for that question

You don't get a wider track at all.

You get wheels with a greater offset and different suspension that's it. I looked into it.

hehe i'm a 9.5 light weight in a 182, not cup tho :/ I luv my lights too much.

And boy i can feel the difference when a fatty mate gets in :rasp:

Cups have thinner glass, no CD changer, no rear speakers, no leather alcantara, no RHR, no split folding rear seat, no Climate/ac, no auto lights/wipers......

hmmm. if the 172 has no real difference from the cup, then why is it that on every "which car" thread people always list the 172 cup over the 182 FF and cup, and the 172 non cup?

The 172 cup also has no sound deadning through out.. having driven all the MK2 Clio sports in standard form, the 172 cup does seem to feel more in tune with the driver... Could all just be in the mind but 90kgs is alot of weight..

yer it is ,, reason was could not under stan why a 172 cup could pull a way from me the other night when he said he had got nuthing done to it and i all way though they were the same , jsut with out the added abs and exons and and a diff wheels and springs set up , oh well , lol , so there are lots that can add up to the 80 to 95kg difference between the two cars and if hte 172 got 3 people in it the cup is going o pull away any way,

I've owned a 172 and now a 172 cup. Main points for me are:

Performance: i dont care what people say there are faster versions of every 2.0 clio out there, it depends on the strength of the engine at the end of the day. manufacturing tolerances dictate this (eg my 172 was faster than a friends cup and equal to anothers' remapped cup)

Handling: the cup is just that little bit sharper in the steering and just abit more keener to change direction due to the lower weight

Braking: give me ABS in the wet anyday of the week

Comfort: 172 is streets ahead of the cup - 80mph motorway cruise is alot louder in the cup (wind noise mainly) and when i fitted a decat it was alot more apparant than it was on the 172. The interior of the 172 is also alot nicer place to spend time, and the climate control demists the screen alot faster too (other than that i never used the air con, windows down ftw!)

172 Cup is awesome...in the dry ! In the wet your own inbuilt "SH1T!!!" warning system is the only thing to stop you sliding around on wet roundabouts ;)

My Cup feels a lot more planted and solid to drive than my old Ph1 ever did; I can't compare to Ph2 172 though.

172 Cups own everything. No hiding away from the 89kgs weight saving - that's almost a 14.5 stone lard-ass.

Having said that, as above, get one with a weak engine (most are noticeably stronger on all the RR sessions I've been to) and there's not much in it.

The best way to describe it really is if someone has bought one and doesnt like it, then they didnt know enough about it and should get a FF.

The margins are small but they are there, a talented driver in a cup would run rings around the "normal" driver in a 182 so everyones opinions are based on their own experiences.

think ur gettin confused with 182s and 182 cups being that i think 182 cups are just a cheap 182 with no leather and xenons ect, 172s are differant. you have the none cup which has all the nice extras or the more track focused 172 cup with no abs and more stripped out

I've found the handling on my 172 Cup to be not far off the handling of my NA VX220 when I had it. Very impressive for a FWD car.

However I wouldnt say it owned everything. Bearing in mind it's still a suped up shopping car at the end of the day.
