172 vs corsa 2.0L

bit of a stupid comment eh ??^^, try puting a larger equivelent engine into the clio (say a 2.6) then race them

  20VT Clio & 9-5 HOT

dont underestimate a 2.0 nova/corsa! they are 150bhp standard but most tend to be slightly more, and they weight less than a valver/williams!

iv had a few very close races at york with 2.0 16v novas, but managed to hold my ground up to now! they were running 14.5s at york!

Yeah its a stupid question really isnt it?

quote "Both cars unmodified (except the corsa with the bigger engine ) ", you can not much more MODIFIED than sticking a bigger engine in your car...LOL

I agree with you, put a bigger engine in the clio and see.... :D

Simon.

lol, & ive seen a 172 vs a corsa 2.0 as both my mates had them and the corsa had the edge over the 172 for a while.... then when my mates full system had bedded in and he had reached about 12k miles he started to have the edge over the corsa!

but like adam said, dont underestimate them! they may be sh*t pieces, but somet that weighs less than a tin can with a big engine in is going to shift!

I would put my money on the corsa - as has been said theyre lighter and on average tend to make more than 150bhp. Std 172s are only about 165ish and are heavier at the end of the day anyway...

Are the 2.0 16V Corsa/Novas any good round bends though?

Brakes Id imagine are pretty shocking too without significant investment.

Stupid question as there is no such model as the 2l corsa, iirc there was a warm 1.8 so they would have to use that in their std vs std aprt from the corsa being heavily modified argument..

kids...tsk rolls eyes!

  Titanium 182

iv never had any problems pulling slightly away from my mates 2litre corsa in my mk1 172

we both have a bmc and s/s systems

but hes got a decat

Corsa owner quote..

"It would be a lot cheaper to do the conversion (than buying a 172) in a Corsa and if you dont declare it your insurance will be far cheaper"

gimp!

  Yaris Hybrid

I think Corsa owners are more full of sh1t than Punto GT owners and thats saying something.

Its all just pub talk at the end of the day.

"I smoked this car, I smoked that car" etc. Yeah alright boys.

How can you compare a highly modifed corsa with a 172?? the corsas engine maybe standard but your putting in a bigger more powerful engine whats standard about that?? if i where to put the 3.0 V6 engine in my 172 whould people still compare it to a 2.0 corsa ?? ;)

Why do you have to ask?

Becuase effectivly said child will be uninsured and will join the ranks of the many uninsured drivers who push up our premiums every year. Scum is a more apt term!

i tell you what stick a standard megane engine in the 172 and see who wins (ps purely theoretical before anyone says it cant/can be done)

Vauxhalls and corners dont get on very well!!!
yeh i remember a while back one chasing me, we both went round the corner and he very nearly slid into a hedge but in the end just did a 360 spin, i bet he shat himself, he gave up chasing me though

XE power!

Filter and zorst should see around 165bhp ish on a good example.

I would imagine it would be very close between the 2...seems to be a touchy subject though ;)

A astra GTE 16v is more or less 172 performance so not suprising how quick the corsa is when you chuck that engine in.

If you want brutal speed tho Nova+Let=supercar eating performance.

One round my way makes my Evo look like its going backwards after 60(in the dry) but then thats what 360bhp/ton gets ya

  133/225/CLS AMG

I had a mate who put a 2.0ltr turbod Calibra engine in a Nova. It was a complete death trap.

When it comes to cornering it just doesnt happen, he explained how rubbish it was at cornering. Having said that in a straight line would be fun got up to 160mph apparently?!?!?

Id rather have something more refined like a Clio 172 though. Id compromise speed for overall quality. :D

What, unlike the upteen valver owners on here whove slapped 2ltr bottom ends on yet still have them insured as 1.8s? Dont see anyone having issues with them yet if its a corsa its a different story. People will always try and get away with stuff like that - if you dont agree then fair enough but calling someone scum/gimp is a bit harsh IMO...have none of you ever bent the rules?

Yeah but a Valver to a Willy engine isnt that much difference really. Also a valver can take the power with proper brakes ect. Still they shouldnt do it!

A corsa with a 2.0 is a big difference as the biggest engined one they did was a 1.6 16v. Also they have sh*t brakes ect

but BOTH technically illegal, no matter if one is superior.

Remember....its only wrong if u get caught!! ;)

True, but at the end of the day theyre still breaking the law arent they? Point im making is the double standards attitude going down - the vauxhall mob are just as guilty as us at doing daft things (and ill include myself in that) so were hardly in a position to make sweeping statments. IMO some people should get a grip - we just drive clios after all and can do equally illeagal things...

bleh thats nothing.

When I was first on the road a good amount of years ago I ran a Lighlty tuned 2L pinto from a rs2000 in my Mk2 1.3gl escort and didnt change the insurance

obviously dont condone this sort of action

  Remapped derv Golf

Corsas handle like prams compared to french hatches.

I learnt in a mk1 1.2 Corsa and my metro 1.0 City would have smoked it on the twists.

  Red197

My mate had a 2.0l red top corsa, it was quick. By the time my 172cup got into third i was pulling away quite easily.

Had a play with one when i had a stamdard 106 GTI and i can fairly say it wipped me, though having shared a corsa sport with the girlfriend and having the 106 also to compare it against they cant corner without bags of understeer, quite dangerous if you ask me!!

  20VT Clio & 9-5 HOT

i raced a corsa 2.0 16v turbo! stuck with him on a couple of blasts, but he battered me from a rolling start in 4th, and he had 2 passengers!

rapid as fuk! it was over 300bhp tho!

Hello Evocarl! nice to see you frequenting other forums too!

To give my opinion/experience on the corsa 2.0 vs Clio argument, Id refer to my recent blat at the pod, I minced a 2.0 corsa who did a 15.1. I then watched a clio cup do a 14.7... which answers the question in my own mind.

However Im aware that both cars can do better times than that, driver/mod dependant.

On the road I wasted a 2.0 Nova with a MAHUUSIVE pipe on it - well... I say wasted.... most novas arent even in sight by 150 mph, this one had only lost about 10-12 car lengths - eek! not bad going for something with the aerodynamics of a badly put together garden shed ;)

Im not being car(ist) same to any valver owner!!!

  Street Triple R

stil much rather have a 172 than a corsa anyway, bloody awful cars no matter what engine theyve got

I raced a 2l 16v Corsa at Crail and beat him and Im sh*te at quarter miling. Funniest thing was watching him go onto the grass in my rear mirror on the run off track where the hay bales are. Muhahaha!
