172 vs Cup on Duel Carriagway

  Alfa Mito 155TB

Hello I started off this posting earlier this week...it was I whom beat a cup on a dual carriageway...I am disappointed that others have overall editorial rights over comments people post on here....I think my comments where valid... STOP SHUTTING DOWN POSTS!!!

Originally what I posted was basically two comparable cars...well a couple of tenths in it here and a couple of seconds there can be even stevens in a race situation....There is too much reliance on car performance and I think people have forgotten driver ability...i.e to change gear and balance cars on bends.

I think I beat the cup because I was changing gear bang on the green light change up without taking my foot off the throttle..where as i believe the cup driver may of been driving to the rev limiter. I also think the full tank of SUL (Normally use Optimax) helped...but maybe the other guy was using Ron 95 stuff!

I wouldnt change up that way even in a race. What you gain is miniscule compared to what you stand to lose in the old wear and tear. You can be plenty fast changing up normally.

I agree it doesnt help the old clutch...I read the locked originalposting...and CUPSIZE was questioning whether I thought Cups are faster than 172s and of course CUPS are .3 of a second quicker to 60.. and generally faster they have to be quicker because of the power to weight ratio going on....drivers make the difference and people shouldnt be complacent about performance when having a friendly blast against others on dual carriageways.

Today an RS Turbo Escort was quicker than me on the A1..he scampered away.I acknowledged him with a flash of the lights and friendly wave when we met on a roundabout!!!

Cupsize....the Cup driver was trying...i caught up with him because we had a car in front of us both...the car in front moved out of the way and we were off...a section of the road was pretty much clear for 3 - 4 miles with the odd bunching of cars.....please stop prattling on!!

FULL throttle changes! geez! i hear thats the best way, and i think craggy uses it, but it must cain the gear box! are we talkin keepin the throttle all tha way down when changin?!?!?!??!

  Clio v6

If I had a CUP. I would probably be toasted by many cars especially a 172. I aint no super driver so anyone with a tiny bit of skill would cane me in a CUP. The small fraction of advantage a CUP has on paper, would easily be forgotten by a half decent driver just changing gear a bit sooner.

Jump off at the lights and get a good head start , you may need to, its your clutch and your ego.

Bleedin silly Renault bringing out another 172 whos power is so close you could split hairs over. I say if you want to think a CUP is faster than a 172, then do so, but dont make us sick to the back teeth ever day hearing about it. We have enough visitors to the forum to deal with all that shyte.

BTW. My V6 is faster than any other V6 that has more CDs in the glove box.:)

LOL @ DASH!

I bought my cup cos i loved the colour and it was cheaper! i have no probs with 172s i love em as i do all clios, i dont think theres any rivalry between us lot! only as much as 16v & willy owners! its just a laugh! were all clio owners! we need to be arguing with the likes of....ahhhem saxo owners!LOL KIDDDIN! BUT COME ON GUYS! its all a laugh! SMMIIIILLLLLLLLLLE!

btw BEING A CUP OWNER ID KILL YOUR V6 DASH! STARTIN IN 3rd GEAR!;)

Nah but seriously, i think theres nowt in it. both great cars for the money! and im sure all the other cup owners on here would agree! ive never raced one, but am sure performance 0-60 would be pretty much identical, and thats b4 varying drivin skills come in to it! i mean whats .7 of sec between friends! and thats on paper

Altho i dont know how big a diff 0-100 is!

BTW i love my cup! viva la cup!

Doubt it mate, My missus is so Ugly that Saddam wouldnt even ride her into Battle!

(Only joking pookie pie if youre reading!)

Afternoon

That was interesting Good job Im across the Irish Sea coz otherwise Id kick your asses for being cheeky! I havent done any sl*gging, whereas a few posts on this thread have - thats why people tend to leave these forums coz some members cant seem to deal with "not everyone agreeing with their posts" Tumbleweed I believe you and there was no offense intended - why does everyone have to get all wound up like this - everyiones guilty of the same thing or are we all not human!

Everything is cool and calm in my world....but I may be interested in coming to Nuremburg....the open Autobahns and group N air element under the bonnet of my car...with 98+ fuel in the tank.

  mk2 172

i dont do full throttle changes, dont need to to be honest, i just change so quick i barely loose a rev, i got this foot - hand co-ordination thing goin on.

craggy

Jesus what have I been missing me and my cup have been pottering around slaying the odd wannabe boy racer but none of this malicious sl*gging off, and as for us Cup owners been snobbs............

No no no.........I love my Cup and all 172s infact Im trying to convince someone to buy a 172 not a Cup! Its all down to personal preference!

So lets all play nicely!

  Megane R26

Probably better off the mark in a 172 anyway! Its not easy pulling away in a Cup without lighting up the fronts in first... second... third (well almost!! ;))

No clutch control probably! He He

I think Cupsize "Clio Sport Area Rep" deliberated locked the identical topic and started this one up with a slight deviation on the word dual to duel so he could have some kind of pseudo glory relating too number of postings....these posting are hot on this topic...any other glory hunters out there.....denie it if you can Cupsize!!!!

If you go back a year youll see similar sort of posts along the lines of the MK1 vs. MK2 and before that 172 vs Williams. Give it few months time and itll be MK2 vs. MK3 Clio.........Lets not sl*g each other off (though it has been an entertaining read;)) and respect the choice made on the purchase of either car as each have their own merits

I dont have the ability to lock posts - Im only an area rep - what was all that about the autobhans and Nuremburg mate?

Cupsize,

I feel I was a bit harsh on you, I appoligise!

I once thought along the same lines as you. I used to think my 172 would cane the ass off a VTS or equivalent, but it just doesnt happen. I reckon to beat a car convincingly you need at least another 100 BHP. With cars like the 172/Cup its all down to the driver at the end of the day.

What a man - its ok mate - we all get our heckles up -its because we love our motors so much, I just wish I was over near all u lot - theres nowt about here to compare with or do track days/strip racing etc - just dont happen over here! So whenevr I see an equivalent motor I go for the kill and like to tell someone about it - I cant do that it over here - thats what this forum is for aint it? But ur wrong with the VTS - a 172/Cup will convincingly beat a VTS unless its eriously modded - but remember this the 172/Cup will be remembered long after the VTS rusts and is replaced by that hideous ugly (worse than an late 80s skoda, C3..............................lol

Well then why dont you hop on the ferry to Stranraer, go up the M77, accross the M8, up the M90, fire into Dunfermline, then follow me to Crail?? It could be the first Celtic(writing that word against my will) meet!;)
