172 water pump

is it worth getting the water pump changed with a cambelt change...i hav heard it is a must by some ppl and that its personal preference by others?? how much are they and whats the part number if anyone knows? cheers

Renault state they should last for 144K or 11yrs... IIRC its something like that?

I didnt bother changing mine as it looked fine, but as Fre said they are only £45 or so?

just found the cost of the pump is £57+VAT and labour is about £30. I dont think il get it done now....especially if they are good for 11yrs!

it all depends what state your pump is in matey...

Mine is a 2000 clio sport covered 70K, which was fine

My friends 2002 clio sport covered 72, his was shagged!!

There no it will be right age etc. Best check it when the aux belt is off and if you can afford to chnage or don't want to risk it change it.

Always change the water pump on a cambelt change


The pulley on the pump has a tendancy to shear off on high mileage engines thus sending the aux belt into the path of the cambelt - engine death is certain
