18 Year old, 2002 172 Insurance?

  R5 GTT EFI Clio.
Hi all,

Thinking of selling my current clio, and getting a ph2 2002 172 in jan/feb, just wondering if there will be any companies that will cover me on insurance, and if they will what kind of quotes i would get?

Went on go compare for a quick look just to get an idea (even though its always miles out) and not one company would insure me.

Is this doable? if so, rough price?

All advice required please.
Thanks.

Adrian Flux/Chris Knott/Sky Insurance

Prices will be extortionate!

£2.5k + at a guess? Worth keeping the 1.2 until you have 2 years+ NCB!

well i got mine ridiculously cheap @1300 at 19 y.o

im sure if you keep searching and persist you probably could find something

no offense matey but theres a reason no one wants to insure you!

if money doesnt matter then fair enough prob cost you more in insurance than to buy a 172!

I had to wait until I was 21 to get insured with most companies on my 182. Even now I still get quotes of upto £6000! Best I have had is £1000 (with 4 years NCB)

My advice would be to wait and stick with what you have until you have some proper experience on the roads. Driving a 1.4 Corsa and then jumping to this is actually very scarey behind behind the wheel of something that is to me, very powerful, and potentially very dangerous. Hence why it is such a high insurance group.

Not what you wanted to hear unfortunatley. You probaly can get insured somewhere but dont be suprised when you get bent over and asked to pay 5 times what your car cost.

Would be more worried about killing myself in a 172 at 18 tbh, I probably would of.

i owned mine at 19 and im not dead :)

I drove like a t**t though. By the time I was 19 i'd been banned once, rolled one car and written another two off!

By the time I was 22/23 I reckon was when i'd calmed down.

Having finally driven a powerful car I can completely understand why they refuse insurance to very young drivers.

However I do not agree with the extortionate prices some companies are willing to charge! Money makes the world go round.

im amazed your alive Daniel.

Me too. I keep meaning to post the pics of the car rolled in. You wouldn't think 3 lads got out with just cuts and bruises, especially as none of us had seatbelts on!!

Facking hell! I lost a friend who wasn't wearing his belt 2 weeks ago, grew up with him, he was passenger. - get some pics in here of the rolled car!

and for everyone saying how powerful it is, ive driven a few close to 200bhp cars on track and a audi S3 remapped to 300bhp on the road, insured through my brothers policy, Was fantastic! .. just took a little getting used to.

You were such a chav Danielsan!!

Nick, unfortunately "ok" is still going to be just over 2k I reckon....

I'd try get a ph1, if you're set on a mk2 or what about maybe a mk1 valver? should be cheaper and still would be great fun.

Just over 2K wouldnt be so bad for the car it is.
I love PH1's, i really do, yours just looks orgasmic, but im not to keen on the dash's, would a PH1 be cheaper to insure? i thought they were the same group?

I found there was quite a prominent difference, especially on value, and at a guess, they're less stealable.

Nick, you know wiring, and unless you're nuts, you just change the dash surely? I intend to do mine.

When trying to insure, make sure you check specialists, and ask for quotes with and without mods, as my quote was actually cheaper with mods. Crazy I know.

Edit: Maybe you can just buy mine with a converted dash in the new year. ;)
