182’s

  Impreza Turbo

Wow just watched the top gear review of the 182, that looks alot of fun to drive.
Now my problem, seeing as renault dont do an automatic or a tiptronic box for these little beauties, i have to find out if a) its easily adaptable b) learn to drive with the adaptions, in order to get the best out of it.

A tiptonic box wouldnt be too bad i suppose, but knowing the quality of renaults it would be cheap and horrible to use.

An auto would be even worse i reckon in the sport, it wouldnt let you drive it how its supposed to be driven i wouldnt of thought.

no i dont have an auto licence, i lost my lower right leg due to a bike accident 4 years ago, and since then i have been restricted to tiptronic or auto boxes, cos i never found a car worthy, until now. hope that clears why i want to know how adaptable the car could be. :D

Hmmm an interestng situation. The only gearbox I know available would be the sadev 6-speed sequential but then your talking different drive shafts and different front subframe etc... messy situation.

Have you spken to Renult yet matey?

  Embarrassed to say

The flappy paddle thing in the audi rs6 is a load of crap and thats a 50k car, imagine what a 12k car attempt would be like.

no i havent spoken with Renault yet CC, purely because i had no idea untill last after watching Clarkson got silly with the 182, that i wanted one lol.

i was given a link to some adaption company, who for 1500 quid can put a button push clutch on the gear stick, so i am going to take a good look into that, just to see how it works before going ahead with any plans.
But thanks for the advice i have got here, i knew yuo guys wouldnt let me down :D

i used to work for rover and they did a motabiltiy scheme which adapted all the cars for use by handles and stuff - maybe renault do something similiar for you?

Where did you see the review of the 182 on Top Gear. Would love 2 see it. Does anyone want to send me the video, ill return it.

Didnt Saab used to do a manual car that didnt user a clutch??? Im sure I remember that.

Is there a company that can adapt this for you? Rather than a car company a company who provide equipment for needs like this.

My dad has MS and we used to have a hoist that was able to lift him from his wheelchair to the passenger seat and actually was all in the car!! Was only a J plate Escort.

Alex i dont know about the Saab business, but i got link for a button push clutch, so i am gonna check that out before i go any further, cos that looks like a very good adaption

Push button clucth does sound like the way forward for you mate.Definately an interesting dilemma - I suppose - if properly servod a trigger clutch on the gear stick would also be an option.

My dad is also disabled although doesnt drive and were always coming up with unique and interesting adpatations to the house to make life easier for him. Ill have a look through his books tonight to find some companies. :)

Ok also heres another question - interesting I know... but you can happily use your left leg for accelerator and braking?

yes mate, i was a little worried about it when i 1st went for a car, but as soon as i got in it, it felt as natural as using the right foot

thatll be quite pricey to get that done due to the camble operated clutch system the 182 uses

im sure it can be done though, ill ask my old man (engineer, one of the products he produces is clutch cables!!!! not renaults though!!)

How about going for an auto box from a megan or laguna?

There a few auto boxes they use which mate upto the f4r engine in those cars (the 172/182 engines are f4r derivatives so they should mate up).
