i used to have a 172 cup, and have driven the 197.
the 197 rattles less, is better screwed together, has a better quality interior, optional recaros are fantastic and the 197 looks awesome.
however, its less punchy the the 1*2 due to slightly more wieght and 6 speed gearbox, ur always changing gear.
Its also a tad less 'point and shoot', it all feels far more refined. A worth upgrade tho, go for the R27 for the cup chassis and graphics and ltd edition-ness.
Or do what im doing and hold out for the 197 cup to see what thats like.

cud do with a 7th gear as i understand it, same with the 172/182 really, buy the time ur cruisig at 80/90, the engine is screaming at you.

Get real if you have just shelled out £16K for a high spec 197, your not going to come on a forum & say you made a wrong decision are you. :quiet: :slap:

Ive driven 5 197's clocked up several hours of 197'age. Close enough.
No I don't own both. Why would I?
I'm only pointing out that the OP wanted honest comparisons of ownership experience. (I'm sorry but several test drives is not the same as living with a car day to day). The first reply is comparing 172 Cup against 197 - again not what Paul asked!!!
Was rather hoping that Paul's request would stop this thread descending into another tedious 1*2 vs 197 thread....

i wasnt doing a v's, i was simply comparing my expriences.
he's looking to buy a 197 so I figured he'd want as much of other peoples feedback as possible really, so I stated what my impressions of the car are.

Whichever has fuel
Kangarooing is down to owners putting cheap fuel in. In the ownners manual, it clearly states that the car should run on Super unleaded. If you put s**t fuel in, it will kangaroo while the engine is cold. This is due to emissions ratings. Won't bore you with the details.
Paint peeling?? we've sold about 12, i've had 3 demonstrators and so has our other garage, and i cannot recall a single complaint regarding paint.

driven both 182 is more fun but not built so well
the 197 is still a renault at the end of the day so will fall to bits in the end
good thing ur not going on looks as the 197 looks like s**t
