182 Aux tensioner

  182 Trophy
Just changed the alternator and found the tensioner (with air-con, spring type) was very stiff. I slackened the bolt of and just nipped it up very slightly and it had eased up a lot.

Since re-fitting, the bottom of the spring is very close to the belt - possibly even touching, if only very slightly.

I'm concerned that this is because it's slightly stiff, it hasn't managed to tension as much as it should (although the belt seems tight enough).

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm a little reluctant to spend out another £70 on an aux kit when this would be the third one it's had in 18 months! (Wheel shattered on the first one!)

I've been keeping a very close eye on this and it appears to have got worse.

now it's really touching and has worn into the belt.

my Renault dealer doesn't keep the aux kits in stock but I can get an aux belt. Does anyone have any idea what's causing it to seize and if perhaps I can pull it off and grease it up?

Morning... the tensioners can seize....... my advise, change the tensioner straight away..... if that AUX belt snaps it will smash through the timing belt cover and take the timing belt out..... wrecking your engine. Seriously.... change the tensioner.

I have little choice if my dealer don't have one - I absolutely need the car this weekend. I guess I'll pull the tensioner off and see if anything can be done with it.

Hope you can get it sorted , mine getting swapped in the next few weeks , they are lethal if they go :/ youll be playing 16 valve pick up all weekend if it does :S id seriosuly consider not using it if you can fix it as it WILL more than likely kill the engine mate ! sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Got a kit in the end - luckily they had it in stock for once.

I think I've had the aux belt off too many times now (this will be the 5th) - done and dusted in 20 mins lol.
