182 cruise control - how to check

There are LOADS of posts here on the cruise control in 182 and lots of possible suggestions.
Rather than trying every one, is there a process we can follow to locate the fault?

For example:
1. Push the cruise switch to up. The green light should come on the dash.

If so - does that mean the cruise switch works?​

2. Push the brake pedal and the brake lights should come on.

Does that mean the brake sensor switch works?​

If that's not enough - what else do you need to do to check the brake pedal switch?​

Are there similarly easy checks for other common causes: clutch switch, ABS ring ... ??
