  Mk2 172
I have a 182 and im considering running it on 15,s on the road. Has anyone done this? Is is better or worse than 16,s? Any advice would be great.
Cheers

handling is so much better ive ran 15's 16's and 17's and 15's are by far the better option IMO take off feels better and its always less weight

Less grip unless you got the 205's in the 15 inch size.

Oh and another point that ppl havent mentioned... It would affect the accuracy of your speedo...

few trophy owners with 15's on though

Could be all sorts of reasons but the reason why the Trophy was so good was its handling and it was running 16's so that size cant be too detrimental

All depends what your gonna use your car for

Im running replacement 15's on my ph1 172. My reasons were i didnt want to mess up the acceleration. I'd never run 14's tho

Ran my 182 cup on 15's (for track and some road)

Handled better, accelerated better and looked better.

The slight loss of width on 195 tyres can easily be overcome by running some decent rubber...

There are loads of wheels that fit. I was running the above Compomotive 2 years ago!

Thats rubbish. the overall wheel and tyre size is the same cos ive already put them side by side and also a wider tyre doesnt mean more grip!

Depends on the tyre 195/50/15 paradas are the same width as 205/45/16 PE2's!!!!

Its just how the manufacturers make them, paradas are more square which makes them wider.

15's look 100% better with a decent drop!!!that blue 182 above looks the nuts!!!would have thought the ride would be better too with a larger side wall?

Car seems much more chuckable on 15's, seem to give you more confidence to play about and throw it into things. Prefer the handling to on 16's.

Lots of young guys think big diameter wheels must be better, and well, even if they aren't they look more like what a race car has on them.

But race cars fit them for one and only one reason. So they can fit bigger diameter brakes inside them. If you're not going to do that you shouldn't go to bigger diameter wheels, because bigger diameter wheels have disadvantages for road use.

Bigger diameter wheels, even with exactly the same rolling diameter and with tyres on them, are significantly heavier. That hurts ride. Its hurts acceleration. It hurts steering feel.

And for the rolling diameter and width tyres that Clio Sports need, they're cheaper for 15" wheels than they are for larger diameter wheels.

Renault fitted 16s because car magazines rate new cars on specification, and youngs buy them on specification. They say this ones only got 15" wheels, which isn't any "improvement" on the previous model, whereas that one's got 16s or 17s, so it must be "better". But it isn't always really better. Its just specification for the sake of it. Its buying things so you can boast about what they've got, even if you're never going to use it, or it really isn't any improvement. That's the way the car industry and the computer industry and a whole lot of other industries work in a capitalist world. They have to persuade you to keep buying their "new" "better" products.

But a whole lot of people are starting to realise the latest generation of cars with huge wheels and wide tyres have terrible ride compared to previous generations of cars, and when you need new tyres they cost a fortune.

well look at the new civic and 197 with bloody 19's on! even the verctra's can now come with 19's on from the dealer, they use 15's in the clio cup races so obv they must be the best size

Strange this thread. i would of thought 15,s would be better for road but gdi and mark fish both disagree? strange one!
