182 Cup Pack Insurance

  RS Clio 182

Can anyone tell me if there are any insurance companies that will fully cover the cup pack? I have been trying to get a quote for a new 182 with both suspension and spoiler packs and all companies are adding on a premium and saying that there is some clause that means that they will only replace the standard spec for the car, not the cup parts.

If you do a search youll see a few threads on this - for me NU and Tesco were the only ones who didnt have a prob with Cup packs - its been different for others on here though...

Plenty of threads and plenty of conflicting advice in each one.

I am with Tesco and dunno what I am going to say when I get insurance.

Seems like Tesco told half the people that the Cup packs were fine and the other have they charged an extra £50 or so.

They are factory options and will not increase the premium. The confusion has perhaps come from when youve said that it has these items and the operator thinks theyre aftermarket additions.

I agree Jeremy, to add to confusion though, someone on here has Renault Insurance and even they have been charged for the Cup Packs! Work that one out.....

I didnt tell my Insurance company purely for the reason that they are factory fitted and you are not required to inform them about these.

Ditto Dave.

I only told the insurance company about my Viper Induction, as far as Im concerned thats the only non factory fitted modification.

I told Tesco it has the factory fitted Cup options and they said fine. A few weeks before I called them and was told it was a modified car!! Idiots.

im with privilege and they were fine with my extra cup suspension and spoiler pack didnt charge any extra so they say!!! all they said was if it was fitted at the factory then they class it as standard

Im on the phone 2 direct line right now.

They want another 75 for the packs and Metalic - lets just say Im voicing my concern! - operator has left me on hold for 10 mins now!

They want to charge you more for having Metallic paint? Dont leave an expensive jacket in the car or theyll be asking for a further £200.

I coudnt beleive their position.

"You mentioned the cup packs but you didnt mention the metalic"?

"so"?

"Some metalic is very expensive so we need to know"

"but I told you the car is worth 15k"

"oh yes, err but it doesnt work like that......

Firstly be aware direct line record and can recall all telephone calls. It has come down to a "we didnt quote for the cup packs" vs "you did debate".

Its fair to say I understand my rights and am writing to their Data Protection Controller to obtain copies of the recordings. Im not bothered about the money its the principle. Im cancleing my policy & going to esure - who are cheaper anyway.

The amount of contradictory statements from them was incredible.

All the posters that state in the variety of threads "its just an optional extra so Im not telling them" are runing a risk.

It is up to your insurer to define the terms of the policy, of which you should all have copies. Id suggest you check or face getting an adjusted payment on claim minus the additional fees or potentially no payout.

When I told Tesco what I was buying they first said it would be a further £80 for the Cup packs. When I actually took out the policy they said that factory fitted options are covered by the value of the car being insured. Maybe I should have recoreded them saying that.

Its very wrong how we have to fight and argue to get something we are forced to pay for by law.

You all seem to be discussing direct line, priviledge, tesco, and renault insurances but did you know they are all the same company! All 4 of them belong to UK Insurance Ltd and therefore, all related. Besides, if the car comes from the factory with the extras already fitted, then surely they are not modifications but are "factory fitted standard equipment" whether youve specified them or not.

Does a BMW driver pay extra just because hes got a radio in his car!

I beleive they use the same underwriter (UK Ins) but are not the "same company".

A very rational arguement and I agree entirely. I couldnt beleive what I was hearing. They stated that they would replace with the "base model" - not with the cup options unless they were declared.

I did cite numerous examples - e.g:

"when I order a new car do I have to give you the full list of options?"

"No"

"Well how do you determine what I need to disclose? Do you have a set of underwriting principles / guidelines & can I have a copy"

"A tombola and No" (you get the drift)

Basically insurance cos are a law unto themselves. Just look at people whove been told they have track cover one day to be told they dont the next. Reading some of the older threads its a really prevalent problem - you need to be careful. It doesnt matter what we may think - its down to the ins cos.
