182 Cup suspension

Car  RSC 182 Cup
Hi guys,
I'm new here and probably not a good time to tell you i'm from Australia, seeing we just lost the test.

I purchased my 182 cup in feb this year with 60K miles (100000 km). Firstly how long are the original shocks and springs supposed to last?

The car seems to roll alot in corners. Do you think I need new shocks/springs.

Is there much difference with the OEM shocks V aftermarket ones. I just feel i'm not driving the 182 cup that i've read so much about in reviews.

thanks in advance

Yep, they'd be well and truly worn. The big issue you will have is finding aftermarket shocks for the front- the shock to hub bolt hole spacing is different for the Cup models and not many aftermarket companies seem to cater for Cup models.

By the way have you stumbled across www.ozrenaultsport.com yet? :)

Does anyone know how long the original shocks/dampers should last on a 182 cup? Has anyone done more than 60K miles on their original suspension? Previous owner has stated that the majority of those miles are on the highway/freeway/motorway

Cheers

A milage or age can not be put on shocks, nor can it be put on brakes, if its mostly motorway miles then i cant see why they would be as worn as you state they are, if the arse has been ripped of it then they could last a few years.

It doesn't matter how long the original suspension lasts.
Your not happy with it so change it.

My only concern is that I haven't compared it another 182cup with less tired suspension to see how much difference there is. Not sure whether I want just to replace OE shocks, or OE shock and eibachs, or aftermarket springs and shocks.

First things first, i will take my car into a professional and see if the shocks are too far gone.

I would get it checked but if your not wanting to spend lots of money, i would get the OE shocks replaced with OE ones and just change the springs to eibach sportlines, n see how that feels.
Then you could get new bushes, top mounts and strut braces, depends if your using the car for road or track, maybe little of both.
Cheers

Thanks scottiebhoy good advise,
yeah there are many of you out their with eibach sportlines, and you all seem to rate them.
cheers

Hi Alesi,

My car is circa 62k miles now and I've had it since new (Dec '04). I do a mixture of motorway driving put also the occasional blast on a decent A-road. It has never been on track.

It has the OEM Cup suspension on it and approx 6 months ago, one of the rear dampers lost it's oil. I replaced both rears with Renault items and then approximately 2 weeks later, decided to change the front pair as well - even though they were still fine.

This week, I have ordered a set of Eibach Sportlines springs to go on the OEM dampers. Again, the car 'feels' ok with the stock springs, but I'll let you know if the Eibachs improve anything. :)

How did you discover the loss of oil? Was there oil under the rear of the car or was the rear twichy?

I'll be eagerly awaiting your review on the eibach's :approve:

cheers

I was actually quite glad in how quickly I realised what the problem was! It felt a little loose at the back one day and then their was a slight knocking from the nearside rear.

Got to work and checked the nearside rear. Sure enough, the tell-tale glint of oil....

By the time I actually got back home (driving very carefully, obviously!) it sounded like there was a small drum kit at the rear. You can't mistake the noise.

Thanks for the picture Darren. . . mine has felt loose at the rear lately, I will have a look at see if I can see any oil leak.
