182 Cut out twice! Then wouldnt start, HELP!

A few days ago as I was pulling into my uni accomodation the car cut out, i tried restarting but it wouldnt have it, the STOP light and the battery light lit up on the dashboard. waited about 10 mins, tried again, still wouldnt start, called the AA. waited another 10 mins, then it started, then I phoned the AA to cancel the truck.


Just now at 6pm I was pulling onto the road that my accomodation was on, stopped to give way, the car revved to around 1900rpm, even though i had the clutch in, then it cut out, exactly the same problem, tried starting it, wouldnt start, STOP and battery warning lights on the dash. Phoned the AA tried after 10 or so minutes and it started, had to cancel another AA truck!

what the hell is up with my 182? It only has 3600 miles on the clock and i havent done anything to it, what is causing this.

If it happens again i might for the AA van to come to me so he can tell me what is up with it.

I think I would be a lot more annoyed if it hadnt happened so close to home

Forrget the AA, get it down to the dealer if it's still under warranty, or if you do need to ring the AA get them to take it to the dealer.

Had to call AA when my R5 broke down, he told me it was my carburettor, turned out to be dissy cap!

i cant for the life of me work out whats causing it as its fine most of the time, i will be taking it to the dealer but was wondering if anyone on here had had similar problems, so knew what the problem was

MAP sensor? check the connector spades on the sensor top left of the plenum

i dont think it would cause your problems, but the TDC sensor is a common fault it seems

it looks a bit like THIS and is on top of the gearbox

would it be likely that that is the thing causing the problem? i was going to take it into a garage on monday to see if they could have a look at it, but i suppose they wouldnt be able to see if anything was wrong, as it only happens intermidtently

if you take it to the dealers mate then they can see if the ECU has stored any faults

i just went out for a drive, everything seemed normal, then on my way back the temp needle just went dead, completely dead, not jumpy like i've heard it does.

just managed to pull up beside my flats before it went dead, am now waiting the half hour or so i have done before it will start.

i guess its the temp sensor fault, what do i say when i go into the garage? what work has to be done on it to get it fixed? how long does it take?

gonna ring the garage tomorrow near me and get them to come and get it because it wont start, and i dont want it to cut out when im driving.

any answers to my above questions would be greatly appreciated

ive not even got a Mk2 so i dont know much about em

not a clue why the temp gauge would just go like that, that usually has a different sender than the one for the ECU so it probably wouldnt be anything to do with that

the TDC sensor seems a common fault on them, and the coils seem to go across the whole Renault range but im just clutching at straws

i've been searching through this and the renaultsport site and found out that its more than likely the temperture sensor, maybe the wiring that goes to that, so now i've just got to deal with the dealers.


i'm going to call them at 9ish or earlier tomorrow morning, hopefully they wont need it for long, i heard some guy had his sorted within an hour and a half.

just rang the dealer, got it booked in tomorrow, even though i told them what the problem was they wouldn't order the parts because they said that it might not be the problem, even though it is.


rang renault customer services and they are sending an AA man to come and look at it, im not a happy bunny
